Skype Headsets & Phones

Featured Replies

Hi there techys!

I purchased a skype usb phone from Pantip a couple of weeks back and the dam_n thing just wont cut it. To be fair, it was only 300 Baht so I didnt expect wonders. Its actualy broken now and wont pick up sound.

So, can anyone recomend a good option for around 2000 baht? Wireless handset, wi fi, headset with mic - whatever is recomended.

And also where to buy - to my amazment I went to Pantip with a friend and could only find two stores that sold skype phones.

Thanks in advance

Fax King.

I am very satisfied with my "Plantronics Voyager Pro" Bluetooth headset, found in JayMart for around 3000 Baht. The microphone sound is almost as a normal phone(without echo). I am currently using it with Windows 7 ans before with XP without any problems. Or you can buy the "Plantronics Voyager 510" that comes with a Bluetooth dongle and docking station and can be paired with two devices at the same time.

Pantip is mainly for computer acessories. Try MBK for phone acessories.

Have you considered using Skype on your mobile phone? If you have one capable of running it, i'd really recommend it.

Skype for mobile devices

Plantronics, Logitech and Creative are the brands. I've had unhappy experience with Phillips. Doesn't have to say Skype specifically, just be a headset in that price range. I've had great experience with Plantronics. Look for a volume control and mute on the cord.

Me, I prefer over-the-head to behind-the-ears arrangements.

And I'd get one suitable for listening to music as well, comfortable for long periods. Comes in handy sometimes.

Are you looking for just a headset and mic that attaches to your PC, or an actual Skype phone that functions without the PC? That is what I would like, but haven't found one in Chiang Mai.

There isn't much choice of USB phones for Skype use because Skype is not supported in Thailand - ie you cannot have an account from a Thai address (you can still use your overseas account of course as you will already know).

I only found one when I looked in Pattaya's phone mall (Tuk.Com) - priced at 650 baht, but it has worked well. Sorry it is a cheapie that does not have a brand name on it.

Phones are better than headsets - you can use the keypad to respond to those hateful recorded reply menus* when you call your bank and virtually any other financial or government institution! Or at least you can on some phones - the one I bought in the UK when I first signed up for Skype never worked; the Pattaya one works 90% of the time.

[*Or does someone know how to get round the keypad issue with a headphone?]

I am using a Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset, excellent call and sound quality, its a behind the head model,I bought it in Tukcom Pattaya, forgot what shop though, maybe the Power Buy one

invadeIT, one of the TV sponsors, has a great selection of headsets. I would also suggest Sennheiser, can't go wrong:
