Hi, i am a little unsure of whether to ask this question or not, but if i am going to spend as long as i hope in Thailand it will become a crucial question.

I am a 30 year old single girl from London, and i am hoping to work as an English teacher in Thailand, but I am also hoping to have some kind of social/ personal life as well, and was wondering about encounters with the opposite sex.

From what i have read in the other forums, expats are only really interested in Thai girls ( and good luck to them), so what does the expat female do for some male company? How are Thai men? Are they interested in foreign ladies? What about other nationities?

Am i going to lead a life of celibacy? Or is there some hope?

I'm sure you'll be able to pull if you want to and lets say not all expats are interested in thai ladies only.

Many expat men want a good expat girl.

There is a very different dynamic here but it hardly condemns Western women to celibacy. Some Thai women can be very aggressive towards men and those men get used to not having to approach women anymore. (Disclaimer: not true in all cases, but more than back West.) But in a community of people far from home I think being friendly to everyone is a good way to make friends at least. There are some guys that are looking for expat women and most of the guys who spew hateful things about all Western women aren't really that in your face about it when they aren't on an anonymous forum.

Thai men can be shy to approach Western women but learning to speak some Thai and having Thai friends helps. How well and where they were educated has a lot to do with their ways of relating to women.

One thing that I find the most difficult is the dynamic with some of my male friends that have Thai girlfriends. I have male friends with girlfriends that are so jealous that even walking home from work together with them gets me the evil eye. Not that I'm interested in these guys but I am extra careful to never do anything that could even be seen as flirtatious, it could get really ugly. (Please note, once again I am not referring to all Thai women!)

Yep, some Thai ladies can get verrry jealous, so be careful. If you like a guy check if he's taken already, or maybe even whether someone has a big crush on him!

You can find ANYONE you want here, it's a grab bag. Some are good and some are so far off the track it doesn't even need mentionning. Find someone you are comfortable with and go from there. You sound cool.

I have just had two nephews of mine 'backpack' Thailand, one 21 and one 23 younger than you but possibly entering the same kind of age bracket, neither of them had any particular designs on Thai ladies and all I heard about was their escapades with western ladies.

'Expats' however conjure up the image of 50 year old men who specifically target younger Thai ladies , probably because a 30 year old western lady wouldn't look twice at them.

I am sure if you took a fancy to such a being you would have no problem, and as your preferred male is probably closer to paragraph one then you should have no problems at all.
