How do you know 'it' [government provide insurance] will not work well ? - you are guessing and cant possibly know that. The Government scheme works well enough for Thai's - so why couldn't foreigners / tourists and long termers pay into that scheme too ???? It could be included in Visa Costs... Or it could be a 'fee on entry' although that could cause additional chaos and delays on arrival. Thailand is already floating a 'tourist tax' - so an insurance premium could be added to that - costs have been floated in the past and its only about 300 baht per arrival. -

Opening a Thai bank account as a foreigner questions
We've been using Bangkok Bank for many years with very few problems. In fact, if you would like your U.S. Social Security or other pension funds to be directly deposited, Bangkok Bank is the way to go. There is a Bangkok Bank in New York City in which you first must open an account, and have your pension funds directly deposited there, and transferred to the Thai branch. (I may be missing a step or adding one, but you get the idea. It's not difficult. Just paperwork.) -

Okay, this topic is just about into page 2. (or maybe actually in page 2 when I post this.) So now the quality and relevance of the posts will begin a steep decline. That's the way it is. The easy solution to that is in the original post. -
