jjonz
I see you have a list of numbers for the various tourist police, but most posters on this forum aren't tourists. Where are the emergency numbers for the various hospitals, fire service? I yesterday had cause to call an ambulance for a Thai neighbour but had to go through the tourist police?! Not too much to ask is it? And much more important than 'favourite restaurants' et al.
ScubaBuddha
And keep in mind that 1155, the tourist police number, is not always up. The times I have called and actually found it working, I can't get an English speaker. The one time I called the 1669 private ambulance number no one spoke English either. ScubaBuddha
Add 076 342 2769 for police in Phuket. I am told that works better than 191. Also, make sure you include 1300, the 24 hour domestic violence hotline. (http://www.call1300.net/ in Thai only. More info in English at http://thailand.prd.go.th/view_inside.php?id=4587) Flying in the face of the common "Mai pen rai" attitude to spousal abuse and abuse against women in Thailand, there is a large movement to bring Thailand in line with the west and educate them that domestic violence is not a "personal issue." Obviously for crimes in progress the police should be called first, but the 1300 number can be used by either someone reporting cases of abuse or by the person being abused for information and help to safely get away from the abuser.
