Advice: Extending My Non-imm Type O Visa

Featured Replies

Hello, I would like some help or advice with my NON IMMIGRANT type O visa, I would like to extend my visa as of april 24th 2010 for another year but I don't know if i will qualify for getting an extension as I am not married, dont have kids and I am certainley not the age to retire coz im 22 years old :) .

I am currentley living with my Thai girlfriend in Bangkok and have travelled alot of Thailand in my time here so far (very beautifull place i must add). As for money I have ฿108.000 in my account and will start a job working in teaching in the next 2-3 months.

Do I have the wrong type of visa?

Should I leave the country and get a different type of visa e.g type B ?

What do I need to qualify for extending my current visa for 1 more year?

I have searched many many forums and blogs for information but all I see is advice for parents, retirement and marrige (in regards to the type O) I dont know where else to search so here I am posting here hoping that somebody can help me with this.

I appreciate any advice anyone has on this matter

and would like to say thankyou in advance.

Regards.

Confused farang :D

You cannot get a Non Immigrant B without having a receipt from the Ministry of Labour WP3, so you would have to have a job and contract and all the necessary documentation first, then visit the MoL, then go outside of Thailand to get a Non Imm B.

The nearest place you could get another Non Imm O Visa would be Perth Australia.

You could get a Double Entry Tourist Visa from Vientienne Laos..

To work as a teacher you need a Non Imm Visa and a Work Permit.

As said above you need a job and Work Permit first to be able to get a Non Imm B Visa.

You don't seem to have any reason to extend your o visa. Get married or have a kid real quick because turning 50 any time soon is not an option.

You will have to leave the country and get another non o visa.

Good luck.

ok I will make sure i get the correct documents when i start work including contract and a reciept from the Ministry of Labour etc..

what about extending my current visa? or is that out of the question?

thanks :)

As you yourself state that you do not qualify for a 1 year extension, I don't really understand you stating you want a 1 year extension for 1 more year, insinuating you had one such extension before.

I think you never had a 1 year extension (where you do not have to leave Thailand for 1 full year), but rather a 1 year multiple entry visa (issued by an embassy/consulate) allowing you to come and go as many times as you like in a year, but with every stay never more then 90 days.

This visa you cannot extend if you do not qualify, i.e. are married with sufficient savings/income, are retired etc...

When this visa expires (and you do not qualify for an in-country issued 1 year extension), the only option is to leave Thailand and go get yourself another one. Do note that the 1 year multiple entry version is generally only obtainable in your home country (or in a non Asian country). Most Asian countries will only give you a single entry tourist visa, unless you have a genuine reason to obtain a non immigrant visa such as being married or retired. The only close by exception being Perth, where you on invitation of your girlfriend can obtain a 1 year multiple entry O type visa.

At the moment, as you still have a few months left, your best bet will be to go and work (teach) for a proper employer who can arrange a work permit and which is qualified to enable you to get a 1 year extension based on employment. Meaning enough Thai staff, enough revenue (audited book keeping) and enough salary for you.

Thankyou Monty I now know what I have to do.

And thanks for the other replys you have been a great deal of help.

:)

And yes your right i have a multiple entry visa which i got in the UK

And keep in mind, if you ever get that coveted 1 year extension based on employment, this will always remain tied in to your employment!

Meaning if you ever lose your job, you will have to leave Thailand on the very same day your job ends.

No grace period, apart from the possibility to buy 7 days extra at 1900 Baht! Just enough time to pack your bags, hardly enough time to find a new job!!!

Thankyou again I will keep that in mind so no extensions for me then lol, of course I do want to keep the job once I have it but I think I will stick with multy entries for a couple of years until im more secured in my job and confident that I wont loose it in a hurry.

Well, if you have a multiple entry visa, you can always get the 1 year extension. If you lose your job, and you multiple entry visa is still valid, you can just leave Thailand and come straight back. It's only the extension you lose, not the visa. Obviously only good for 1 year.

Might save you a few border trips...

Ok so when i have work and its all valid + i get a new visa (multi entry), how much does it cost for the extension? and is it worth it rather then doing the border runs and renuing my work permit?

1900฿

I have a question about that. I have to do my visarun next week but unfortunately all flights are full. Is it possible to get an extension of just 30 days from the immigration office on Ko Samui instead of leaving the country? So I would have 30 days and I could do my visarun one month later and will get 90 days again. Is that possible with Non-Immi-O?

No it is not possible. Take a trip to border, cross into other country and return for a new 90 day stamp. You do not have to fly.

Yeah I just read it too that it is not possible. I made the border runs many times to Ranong but it's such a lousy trip. Since 2 years I always fly from Samui to Malaysia but next week all flights are full :)

Maybe I'll take Mr. Kim Travel Agency from Ko Phangan. Some member here recommend him.

Anyway thx for your quick answer.

I was under the impression that you definitely had 7 days grace when your work permit was cancelled (not expired) before the attached non-imm b visa (permit to stay) was cancelled. Has this changed then?

Since Oct. 2006 you don't get 7 day grace period anymore, you have to leave the country the same day or get a 7 day extension for 1,900 baht from immigration.

That is if you are on an extension of stay from immigration, not if you are on your initial 90 day entry or on a valid multiple non-B. They remain valid.

Not for over 3 years has that been the case. If you are on extension of stay based on employment and your job terminates, you have to leave the country that day or apply for 7 day extension of stay at immigration (1,900 baht).

Only if your permission to stay is based on Non-Immigrant visa entry can you remain in the country for the duration of your permission to stay if your job terminates.

Thanks for the update! Ignorance isn't always bliss then...
