Ok here is the update. Just back from Thailand and after my previous post here asking about an acceptable gift for the 15yo daughter of my thai girlfriend, and the many helpful responses, my girlfriend got her way. I bought her a 2,500baht gold necklace and brought her, mum, aunt, uncle, two friends and myself for a slap up meal - 2,000baht. I think I got off lightly - oh and now the daughter loves me to bits.

Glad it worked out....2500THB of gold.....not as expensive as most wanted you to spend....

Friendly reminder to folks.....sometimes it is the gift...not the cost of the gift... :o

Slightly off target - but please bear with me: When I visited my other half in Thailand recently, I asked what present to bring his parents who live in a remote Issan village. I suggested whisky - he said NO. Parents are old - that will kill them. We ended up buying a bag of RICE at Chum Phae. Parents were very happy. Coals to Newcastle - rice to Issan!

Hmm I did suggest the gold if you recall - 1/4 BHT chain - yes you did get off lightly! :D
