Cosmetics And Makeup

Greetings and best wishes!

I just thought I'd start a thread about some cosmetics that we love and discovered here in Thailand.

I have found so many brands/products that weren't available in America.

Here are some of my favourites:

Majolica Majorca- the product i am familiar with is the Pressed Pore Cover. Love it. My mom tried it and I bought her one. (It has refills too and a cute compact.) I am curious to try more from this brand, but it is not cheap! Any thoughts are welcome...

Kanebo Tiffa- I like the powders and mascara. There is a pressed powder that is matte, I think it is available only in one shade, and also I have the loose shimmer powder. I used a powder/kabuki brush to apply the pressed powder all over my face for best results. I loved the Long Mascara. It had fibers. I liked the volume formula.

My latest mascaras have been from Fasio. I first bought the Lash Style Perfector, and then the Hyperstay Mascara Deep Trick Curl Volume, which came with a free easy off remover. I Liked them, right? But then my daughter commented on my lashes looking good and then my student who I teach privately asked me specifically what mascara I used. She said it really looked good. When I told her, she said she would buy it as her next mascara.

This stuff DOES NOT COME OFF! It looks even better when I forget to remove it before taking shower. Do not buy these without buying or having a good mascara/eye makeup remover.

There's a shampoo and conditioner that is organic and from Australia that I found at Paragon that I loved, but they are not carrying it anymore, I guess. They only have the "Normal" formula now, which comes in a white bottle with green, and smells kind of citrusy. I liked the dry hair formula that was in a white bottle with brown, and smelled like figs. If anyone knows where this is still available, please let me know!

That's just a few.

I would love to hear more from the other ladies (or men?) here!

Maybe I will list some more too.

Peace!

I'm afraid I still get most of my make up in the UK...I am very loyal when it comes to skin care and I never wear makeup so it lasts me forever.

However (and god I know I am boring :)) I am Oriental Princesses biggest fan. Have their eye shadow trio, their two in one powder and concealer and LOADS of skin care. I am even a member of the Oriental Princess club! You get 20% off once a month plus loads of special promotions like buy one get on 50% etc etc.

I love Shokobutsu shower gels and miss them when I am in England...they smell amazing and my skin is really soft after using them. I also quite like Citra UV intense, it smells really nice and feels good on the skin, but I still need to use Palmers Cocoa butter too, this just makes it last a bit longer.

I'd like to find a decent mascara here for under 500 baht. I use Max factor Max (sent from UK) but it really doesn't last very long and is £10 a pop. I like mascaras that are volume building, quick to apply and easy to take off (I am not bothered about it being waterproof). Any ideas?

fiber mascaras are great, I bought one in the US. First you put on the white stuff (the fibers) and then you put on the black (or brown) mascara. It really makes your lashes long and it doesn't run off at the slightest drop of sweat.

How much does that mascara you are talking about cost, Chantaal? I am getting low and not looking forward to spending something like 800 baht on mascara.

ohhhh sbk, if only I had the patience. Do they really work that well? It's a big make up session for me if I get to 2 coats! Maybe I should give them a go though - any brands you recommend? That I could find in either Tesco or Watsons? I think Maybelline has one and they generally have good reputation for mascaras I think.

Shokobutsu shower gels are nice. They make such a thick creamy lather!

The Fasio mascaras are available at Watsons- that's where I bought mine. They are around 300 baht, and the Hyperstay formula came with a free remover. The remover was in a tube with a wand (like mascara), and you kind of "apply" it like mascara. Then I use more eyemakeup remover (or unscented babyoil right now because I am out of remover in a bottle) on a cotton pad and wipe gently a few times to remove.

sbk- 800 baht for mascara is too much for me too right now! There are three mascaras I am considering as my next purchase, all around 400-500 baht. All are comb style, instead of the spoolie type brush. If anyone has experience with the following, please share!

1. Majolica Majorca. Two formulas that have combs, I think one has a comb and brush combination

2. Kate Wax Mascara

3. Hyperstay Mascara Deep Trick Curl Long

I would like to add some more...

In America, I always used either Cetaphil or Dr Hauschka on my face.

Here in Thailand, my skin changed. I guess it is from the humidity and heat and pollution. My skin became very oily. Now I use Clearasil products. First time ever using anti-acne products. I use the Skin Perfecting Wash- which is like a creamy scrub with microbeads. And the toner. Then I use SebaMed, the body moisturiser formula, on my face. If I use anything else, I will have bad skin.

Just wanted to share because my friends have experienced similar issues

maybelline define a lash volume is really good.

As for make up - I just received my Christmas package from my mum stocked with MAC eye shadows, max factor age renew foundation and powder and some Jolen bleach (!!!). Thank goodness for mums!

Is it possible to get jolen (or any other facial bleach) here? Plus veet? I'm surprised how many Thai ladies I work with don't shave their legs. I know that most Thai women have very light/thin hair, but there are a few women I work with that have really long thick hair on their legs. It does make me laugh when they go on about my weight and then I look down at their legs and smile to myself. Pot and kettle on appearances.

Also, is Max Factor easy to get hold of?

The one I am using is Maybelline XXL Extensions. Fat black thing. White stuff on one side, black stuff on other side. Coat with white stuff first (clean eyelashes!) then coat with black stuff. It takes makeup remover to get it off.

If you can handle two coats you can handle this. I tend to use it for nights out cause if you really do it right its quite dramatic.

For day I use the waterproof define a lash, not really that waterproof tbh, but it doesn't run too badly when I sweat so at least I don't look like a freak.

Nice mom. :)

I laugh when the older ladies tell me "you farang, big sizes" but of course, they are way larger than me. You just learn to laugh it off, I am afraid.

I think Boots and Watsons sells hair removers. I've seen facial bleach too, but can't recall where.... sorry.

Watsons in Trang doesn't have hair remover, but I saw bleach and hair remover in one of those big beaty supplies shop... they usually sell hairdressing equipment too and are great places for cosmetics shoping generally. You'll find it alongside the nipple bleaching cream :)

<br />Whoa. Seriously? Nipple bleaching? Something I had never even considered as existing much less something I would want to do <img src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /><br />
<br /><br /><br />

LOL - I really need to start reading things more carefully - I thought that it said nipple hair bleaching cream. Not that it's any better but I'm not bleaching these nips for anyone!

Always used Clarins cleansing in Thailand. Makeup? For what? Nice slight tan is enough with some eyeliner and a slicker of Chanel gloss on the lips at night. Done! Oh, and lots of silky body lotion several times a day, and lots of water orally. M-up in Thailand is useless, IMO.

I don't wear foundation, and do not tan. Frankly, I like my skin and want to keep it fresh. Besides, after a while you begin to appreciate your white skin, especially after hearing for so many years how lovely it is. That said, I come from a family that is prone to skin cancer and would rather be white than have cancers lasered off.

Not everyone has an even skin tone, I suffer from a type of rosecea & small patches of thread viens on my cheeks. I also have a high colour so I wear a light foundation & loose powder everyday if I go out.. I has the added benefit of keeping my skin well protected against dirt & sun damage as my foundation has spf. Today I am at home with no makeup on & my skin just feels slimy & gritty. :)

My skin was the best when I was in Thailand with the high humidity. If I'd worked in an air-con office I would have worn the full warrior facial armour, but I found no need. Always had my DIY weekly facials and body grooming tho. I used to have many skin problems when I was stressed or angry.

The high humidity in Thailand does do wonders for the skin but I find that some of the Western women that live here tend to rely too much on having a suntan and not so much on personal grooming. In the end, too much sun makes you look like a piece of shoe leather.

I dont wear foundation (not because i have great skin, far from it!). I dont like the feeling of foundation, and my skin reacts badly to many things (im even allergic to mineral makeup!).

I also dont like coloured powers.

So..was really happy when i found a kind of powder thing that is light, doesnt cause my skin to react and isnt heavy or coloured. Its called Groovy Smoovy by ZA. Its a blotting powder rather than a powder. I also like the little blue blotting papers you can get which take away any oil on hot sticky days. It has vitamin c in it too.
