I don't know of anywhere, but I'm intrigued to know what you have that you can't find on the internet to download? I only ask because I was always thinking of bringing my LP collection over one of these days, then I realised that most of them are probably available on file-sharing sites.

Good question, But it would take forever. Since the source would be at 33 rpm it would might take some time to convert a collection to digital.

I just brought much of my lp collection over. It's true there's lots of music out there online but I did many searches & couldn't find much of what I was looking for. One example - Sweet Apple by the band Sweet Apple. Classic late 60s funk ala Sly & the Family Stone. I've never been able to find another copy other than the one I own (which is now here in Chiang Mai).

Go buy a USB turntable and record your LP's on MP3 format. Most of the turntables come with software also. You might be able to find a used one because people buy them to convert their collection and then have no use for them. You might even be able to rent one. Even at Thai low labor rates its going to be a time consuming endeavor.

In the US I have seen them for under $70 new.

Hi there -

I have just done that with my collection of LP's most of which were bought in the 60's or 70's and few are still available. Turntables are difficult to find in Thailand now - there is a guy in Pantip Plaza selling some second-hand staff, one of which I bought and wasted nearly Baht 16,000 on it. I then bought a Technics TT from Panasonic (distributor in Thailand). You might also need a Phono Preamplifier.

A good quality soundcard in your PC helps - Creative X-Fi and record them to your PC using their SmartRrecorder, getting rid of a lot of unwanted noise, etc. There are several editing programs around and I tried most of them – the one I finally used for editing was Adobe Audition giving you perfect results.

I started late in 2006 and finished a few months ago. However, half of the about 300+ LP’s were done twice – the quality using the Technics TT was just that much better.

It was great fun.

I do this kind of work often in my studio. Specialized software also removes scratches and pops without affecting the the original recording. Analog processing with tube processing keeps the feel.

It is time consuming to record and process as it must be done in real time+editing.

Decent turntables are available here if you do not have one and want to do it yourself using say Toast software. (Modern DJ turntables can be easy purchased) It is the time that is expensive when using a professional studio. If you are serious about the project and would like to review costs and needs let me know. We can discuss your needs. Regards.

Everything can be found online. I did one search for "Sly & the Family Stone" and found hundreds of links. Here's one: - http://rapidshare.com/files/113807262/Grea...Hits__1970_.rar

Converting it would be an option but I think that is the long way around and the sound quality would be horrible compared to a CD copy. IMO

Not true at all. I just completed converting what remained of my LP collection to digital. Most of my vinyl was very rare low production. Obscure recordings that most people have never heard of. If your give the records a good cleaning most of the surface crackle can be eliminated. Advanced editing programs are availalbe to reduce pops and scratch noise if you want to go that far. It takes time since you, obviously, you also have to title every track. i used an ION USB Turntable, bought it on Ebay. Worked great, all software is included and it works in conjunction with Itunes.

I think you misunderstood my post. Of course you can find Sly's music online. The obscure album I mentioned (Sweet Apple) is one that sounds kind of like Sly but it's a completely different band. I searched for it many times over the course of several years but never could find it online (though there are other bands called Sweet Apples online).

I plan on buying a turntable - I'm not really daunted by the time it'll take to convert my collection. I mean, I'm not in any hurry & I actually want to listen to all that music - that's the whole point, right?
