Limewire - Access Denied

Featured Replies

I'm on a True broadband internet connection in Bkk. Running XP SP3.

Installed Limewire, but can't access their URL. The message I get is:

Access Denied

Your system policy has denied access to the requested URL.

It then says: For assistance, contact your network support team.

I have enabled exceptions in both firewalls I use -- Outpost and Windows. Yet still can't get to the Limewire site.

Strangely, my daughter can still access Limewire from her laptop. (She uses Vista).

It seems that somewhere along the line I've missed a step in the installation. Or the ISP is blocking? Anyone got any ideas to help?

Have a great festive holiday, everyone.

Why are you using two (software) firewalls at the same time? I see no reason for this.

You might want to temporarily disable both -- if only to rule out firewall as being the culprit...

Some other things to consider...

Are you using a proxy server?

Is Group Policy setup on this computer?

Also check Internet Explorer "Content Advisor" settings -- make sure it's disabled.

Hi supernova -- thanks so much for the prompt reply.

*About the firewalls -- I actually only use Outpost -- Windows disabled, sorry for the confusion. Disabled Outpost then tried to launch Limewire again, but no luck -- same response.

*Not sure about the proxy - I just simply connect to True broadband.

*Group policy -- hmm. did a check, but no Windows Installer on my computer to get to the Group Policy settings.

*Contents Adviser -- disabled as you suggested. But still no luck.

Any other ideas? Much appreciate your help.

Are you experiencing "Access Denied" problem with other internet applications? Or is this unique to Limewire?

Check your proxy settings: Control Panel >> Internet Options >> Connections (tab).

Click Lan Settings button at the bottom. Under Proxy Server, make sure nothing is checked.

The Group Policy editor is only available in XP Professional. If you haven't configured system policies or are running XP Home, don't worry about it.

Some other things to try...

Reset Internet Explorer security zones to the Default Level or use Custom Settings.

When using Custom Settings, set to LOW or MEDIUM to see if this does anything...

Check the HOSTS file for any abnormalities. Start menu >> Run: "notepad %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
