As a Canadian you can apply online for an ETA.......

Your girlfriend will have to go through the process..

She will need to have.

A reason to return to Thailand or to leave Oz......Travelling with you should take care of that if you declare it.

Sufficient funds for the holiday......you can be an Additional funds provider for her.

She must be a genuine tourist.....again as she is travelling with you then it shouldnt be a problem

Provide evidence thet you are a couple and travelling together

eg....photos, photocopies of her passport if she has been to Canada.....letters between you both

anything that supports the application.

It's hardly worth the effort for a 2 week visit. You will find it a lot easier if you can show she has been to Canada with you before. The best plan would be for you to visit Canada first.

Just to add to my earlier post

Supply a letter of support from yourself....stating that you are travelling together, where you will be staying (if Possible) and what level of support you will provide her....funds, transport, if she will have travel insurance etc.....

If you have pretty set travel plans, it might be worth doing it through a (REPUTABLE) travel agent too. They make group bookings and nothing proves she'll come back better than having everything paid for up front and a set itinery.

Sponsorship from you will go to "reasons to return" and might help if she doesn't have $AU1k in the bank herself (min balance for a few months before) but don't confuse it with the posts by aussies as it's not the most relevant thing. Hypothetically there's nothing to stop you from just buggering off and leaving her destitute in aus (what aus is generally worried about most) so clear travel plans, prepaid accom and tix and a job and family in thailand would be the main things they'll look at. Previous travel in her passport is always a good thing, but not necessary if everything else is in place.

Sorry but I disagree with that part of your post. Firstly, in this case there is no provision for sponsorship, but a 'letter of support' may go towards satisfying the 'adequate funds, or access to adequate funds criteria'. What weight DIAC attaches to the letter of support (if any) will be determined by the length of time and capacity that they have know each other. For example have they known each other for 5 days of 2 years. Include as much supporting documentation as is available. If they have only known each other for a very short time, a letter of support will of be little benefit. DIAC will take the view that the person offering the support is under no moral obligation to ultimately provide that support. If on the other hand, they have been in a long term relationship and documentation can be provided to DIAC that evidences that, then the letter of support will have significant weight attached to it.

With regards to the other things you have mentioned, employment, family ties in Thailand. All good points. NEVER book a ticket before the visa has been granted however.

Another few good points. Include a covering letter. DIAC are required to consider all material submitted with the application. If applicable mention that the applicant does not have any family or friends in Australia, and that she/he has never made an application for any visa of any subclass previously. Finally, a good point is to add the following:

"if the decision-maker has any residual concerns with regards to the genuineness of the Applicant's tourist visa application; Condition 8503 could, and should be imposed to alleviate those concerns. The Applicant is aware of the significance of Condition 8503 being imposed on her tourist visa (if granted)."
