Hi,

I would like to order drinking water (with delivery). My landlady doesn't order it herself. She said, I just should make a phone call to the company, prepare deposit for a bottle (about 400 bath for each) and they will bring me drinking water every week. But my landlady doesn't know the telephone number of this company.

Does anybody know how to order drinking water on Samui? I live in Maeman, if it is important.

Thanks in advance!

1 agree with Rooo, 100 baht deposit & 10 baht per bottle... (20 litres, I think) if you get it direct.

I am surprised at your land lady, not wanting to bother, they usually do, & charge 15 to 20 baht to you.

The guys usually come by twice a week for me... (I'm in Maenam too, no idea which company delivers it, my thai neighbours told them to go direct to me.... either call the number or just flag them down... easy! They even carry it into the house for me.... :)

It's like getting recycling picked up, once they know you save it, they always show up & take it!

do you know the recycling number samuijimmy pls?

Recycling #? The guy drives by every other day on his motorbike. Just flag him down or tell your neighbours you need him.

As BBQueen, says, these guys just drive around, in Maenam & probably other denser areas they are usually on a motorbike & side car, around sun set, each evening, diving into the trash bins & picking recycleable stuff out... I would guess a husband & wife team. I doubt most have a number to call...

I live off the beaten track abit, & usually get trucks driving by on the week ends... I just leave the stuff in a large plastic container /basket by my gate & usually the stuff disappears by Monday ... they must have had a holiday this week end as no one showed up... perhaps next week.... (I suspect they do it for a bit of extra cash rather than it being a full time job, nice trucks, usually too!)

Therefore, if you see one of these trucks (or motor bikes in town) just wave them down... they take just about anything that can be recycled, including scarp metal... cardboard boxes, etc etc...(perhaps not the guys on motor bikes for cardboard & bulkier stuff!)

The tell tale sign is they have a scale in the back of the truck & will offer you a few baht... just not worth taking in my opinion...

On the ring road toward Ban Tai going from Maenam, there is a drop off centre too...on the left side... can't remember what is close by, somewhere near the old Shell Petrol / Gas Station, I think, but it's obvious.

Perhaps others around the island too...? ..anyone?

^ True. The motocyc-sidecar man always came down my small soi after I flagged him the first time. Took near everything -- old monitors, boxes, magazines, bottles. Just left out the empty water jugs with Bt10 on top and the man would drop news ones at the doorstep. My fav is the cooking gas man. No matter what time of day or evening you run out of gas, give a holler and he's there in 5 mins with a new one. Even the postman will find you if you move. No secrets in the village, especially Maenam.

Funny the Postman never found me until I put my number at the gate, now all I get is flyers from Macro, & Tesco! :D When I got a parcel sent to me, the post office actually phoned me to pick it up, thought for sure they would ding me for duty, but no, just had to show drivers license & I got the parcel.

There are somethings that work very efficiently here, once you sort out the "how too's" or get a Thai neighbour to make a call... that can work well too, fortunately I have very good neighbours, another plus of living in Maenam & away from the maddening crowds! :)

Just a side note about recyclers, if you are up one of the Soi's, you are more likely see the Recycle people in trucks, I have never seen motorbike people picking up, other than in town (Maenam, anyway)....

It might be useful to post that phone number for the Maenam Gas man, for people who don't know or trust their neighbours!

Aww! Do you use the PO on the ring road? They are lovely and will get the postman to find you. I never had a prob with that. Flyers are good for specials like TP and dog food. Wouldn't buy any food there, tho. You have an excellent morning market in Maenam!

And, erm, it's "madding" crowd. :D

I don't live on the main road & don't have the time or inclination to sit by the side of the road like some pikey waiting for one. Shall just carry on as normal & leave it separated with the normal rubbish. Thanks samuijimmy.

Yes, can understand that, :D but one day you might just catch them!

Like I said, they usually come up the Soi's on the week ends... the other thing I see some people do is leave the recyclable stuff in a clear plastic bag next to the drop off bins... as long as no food, the dogs don't seem to drag off the bags & scatter things around, which makes it dangerous for the people who cut the weeds down, with weed eaters, especially glass :)

OK, duh! on me!

I just thought to look on the bottle as I was changing to new one!

The company name is Chaba Drinking Water & there is a phone number 081 894 8904

If I am not around I just tape 10 baht to the top of the bottle. & they leave a new one on the doorstep...

I am not sure if this just for Maenam... there seems to be lots of different water trucks as you drive around the island. On Soi 5 just after the school there is a place that bottles water too, not sure if it is the same one or not. You can also get water from Gai's pharmacy on Soi 4, towards the sea, but you have to pickup your self which is a pain!

As for the recycling guys, I think if you leave the stuff near your entrance, you see that it will disappear. they just took mine yesterday I just use one of those large 100 baht baskets you can get a the "10 baht shops"...

Update on phone number for Chaba Drinking Water for the Maenam area.... it is: 07 724 8433

Hours 8 am to 6 pm

They are located on Soi 5, about, say 3 km from the Ring Road, past Baan Shadis Resort, then a hard left in the road and about 100 metres on the left. Hard to miss. ... but a phone call should do it, three of the staff & owner speak pretty good English.

Friendly, and reliable service... :)

I have seen their truck almost down at the Bophut Traffic light, so they seem to cover a pretty good area.
