I don't have any stamp on my aftermarket exhaust and have never had a ticket with my airblade, in 7 months driving in Chiang Mai town..

It is pretty loud, but only when throttle is wide open.

I've even gotten a ticket for no helmet, but no mention about the exhaust.

Not at all. You are truly blessed to live in Chiang Mai, I was speaking from my own experience down here in the jewel of the Eastern seaboard.

Aftermarket pipes in Thailand: NMF, Endurance, DBS, have no such " stamped as road legal" -at least I've never seen one.

I have seen stock exhaust muffler outer chrome "covers" welded OVER stainless steel aftermarket exhausts.

A sonic muffler is a good example.

A road legal replacement pipe carries the stamp, take my word for it or check for yourself.

Saving weight (realistically- on a street legal bike) can NOT give you the same performance as a bigger piston, pipe, cam, carb, and CDI.

Other than the pipe, which doesn't weight 50 kilos BTW, there's not much to take off to save weight.

And what if you ride with a passenger? Or you weigh alot?

I didn't say that it would achieve the same power output as the engine mods did I? What I said was weight saving is where you start. I know a pipe does not weigh 50 kilo's (humor?). If you say that there is not much to take off to save weight then it must be so, however why not just try dropping a pipe and a stock flywheel on a set of scales, both replaceable parts. I would wager almost an 8 kilo saving right there over stock. That's 8 kilos the bike doesn't have to drag fully loaded.

If you want a faster bike, a pipe alone will mostly only make it louder, really. You need more.

For an airblade/click (same engine) there's a limit to the piston size if you dont want to bore the cases - you can NOT do a 170cc motor by modifying the top end alone. And it wouldn't work without a bigger carb, pipe, and the stock CDI limits the top speed as well.

I hope there's no more posts about that miata!

We are I acknowledge speaking scooters here: But as a rule of thumb on big bikes a pipe and map (jetting) is the biggest and cheapest horsepower gain you can make. Roughly 10bhp at the back wheel on a GSXR for example.

I am no Honda expert but are you sure the click and airblade share the same engine? Bottom end perhaps but I thought the click was a 110 and the Airblade a 125? I could be wrong of course as I am thinking of the Yamaha models and wonder why Honda would use the same lump in the two models?

The limit to the piston size without a rebore would be a standard piston no? even on a worn motor if you wanted to go oversize by say .25 then the barrel would need to be honed and you wont need to modify the engine casing at all.

As I said I am no expert on Airblades, I am just applying the same logic as I would apply for either a race bike or a street rebuild. The LAST thing you do to get performance is to re bore. That said on my last project we took an 1100M GSXR up to 1216cc which was a lot of fun :)

The change in pick up would be significant

IMO Cheapest / safest mod to protect the integrity of the engine.

I hope the original poster CAREFULLY considers the advice on this forum!

Cheap and safe to convert a CVT bike to a chain and sprocket?

How about designing and machining all the custom parts, the cost, and will you throw away the entire transmission box that the rear wheel is attached to?

Honestly this is totally ridiculous. :)

AND The OP was only asking about getting a little more power out of an airblade!

Theres a tuning shop near my local which is putting wide wheels on clicks and I think airblades..

They also extend the rear swingarm in an oddball looking config and I am guessing the tyres / wheels are KSR ones.. Wide but small..

Not my idea of hot but pretty heavily modded.. Will snap a pic if I see them soon.

Hi if it's the bike shop on Nanai (Boy) The wheels are of a old JRD and he has bored it out to125cc. That and the swingarm and a few other things he is up about 20k of mods

Since UBC has given me Discovery Turbo and "biker build off" and since the Mio was sold to some nutty Thai girl who thinks she is the next Rossi: I am finding this conversation quite enjoyable.

I have an urge to drag a Honda Airblade up the stairs and take a grinder to it! Is a chain and sprocket conversion even possible with machined parts? If so a 13 on the front and 52 rear would be highly entertaining, throw in the 170 big bore and the longer swing arm and chubby wheels would be a must :)

Think of the wheelies..... :D

Nice wheelies, but I'd reckon you lose a bit of top end speed :):D :D

Going flat out at 10,000 RPM hitting 40K's an hour ain't my thing :D
