South Thailand warned of effects from Philippine volcano eruption

BANGKOK: -- Hospitals in southern Thailand have been warned of possible negative effects from the possible eruption of the Mayon volcano in the Philippines about people suffering from asthma or other breathing difficulties a spokesman of the Public Health Ministry said Saturday.

The spokesman said that dust and smog from the volcano could pose breathing problems for people in southern Thailand and that the ministry had ordered hospitals in the region to closely monitor the situation.

If southerners are thinking of rushing to Chiang Mai it won't be any better for a lung sludgefest.

Yeah, this is a bad time of year for a volcanic eruption. In Hawaii, vog (volcanic smog) is a big problem. Low clouds and volcanic smoke is a bad combination.

Scary to think that Bangkok may be the best place for your lungs!

No, I still think I'd prefer to have them in my chest. I'm old fashioned that way.

Bangkok isn't much better, you can't see more than a Km or so due to the smog. There are too many people burning stuff this time of year.

A massive TWO kilometres here on the outskirts. And lovely plastic being burnt here by the locals. They sometimes burn off leaves at about 5am, for some obscure reason. I wake up thinking there is a fire in the building.
