True adds prepaid option

BANGKOK: -- True Corporation yesterday launched a prepaid high-speed internet service, with the hope of solidifying its lion's share in the market this year.

The company is offering three refill packages, aimed mainly at young Internet users. A 360-baht card offers 30 days of usage time, a 700-baht card is valid for 60 days, and a 1,000-baht card is valid for 90 days.

The company will charge customers 0.24 baht per minute for Internet access without any monthly fee. Customers who sign up for the service need to pay a network connection fee of 800 baht.

The refill cards will be available at True and TA Orange outlets,. and the company hopes to make them available through Counter Service outlets at 7-Eleven stores.

Thiti Nantapatsiri, True's managing director for home high-speed access, said the prepaid offer was expected to help the company reach its target of 200,000 new Internet subscribers this year, doubling its current total.

Do they mean adsl?

How is that going to work as it has to be enabled at the exchange as well?

Hardly worthwhile for short perionds?

ADSL with per minute pricing does not make sense, it is an always on connection!!

These are prepaid cards that may be used for a period of 30, 60, or 90 days and .24 baht will be subtracted from your account for each minute of use from my quick read. You can buy new cards as needed. The start up cost is 800 baht to place ADSL onto your phone line. The speed is "up to 4 times dial up modem" so about 200k.

According to the article 'four times faster than a regular modem dial up connection', so 256kbs. Hardly worth it ... but still better of course than True Click at THB 320 per month.

Carefully read the charges .....
