Pajero Sport Alpine Navi

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any experience with the Navi option available on the New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport? It does not come with a GPS receiver, but has the 7 inch touch screen installed. I'm told by the dealer that I can get an outside shop to install the GPS receiver module.

Will that have to be an Alpine module or can it be a Garmin module so I can use Garmin maps? Can I use Garmin maps if it is an Alpine module?

Thanks

GPS modules can be connected to any AUX input of the Audio System. The problem though, is that the Touch Screen Control will not work. Therefore you should go to the audio garage and chose a with your audio system compatible GPS module.

Most likely, the several brands of audio equipment protect their brands by only allowing their own GPS module to connect.

Good luck.

OK, thanks for that......I sure do want the touch screen function to work.

Welcome CDNinKS.

I became a bit more intrigued by your question and googled around. The Audio Unit in the Pajero Sport seems to be a Alpine DVA-9861E. http://www.alpine-asia.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=280

The Alpine GPS module seems to be an external unit with display PMD-B100E: http://www.alpine-asia.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=823

Features
  • Turn by turn GPS navigation system
  • SD card slot for map data and MP3 files
  • 4.3" TFT touch screen with 16 million possible colors
  • Automatic display mode by ambient light sensor(Day/Night)
  • Built-in speaker and stereo audio jack for headphones
  • 1150mAh Lithium ion battery
  • Alpine AV product connectivity via docking cable(optional
  • Text-to-Speech Guidance (available in Australia and paticipating countries
  • High Speed Route Calculation
  • Points-of-Interest Search
  • MP3 Player

The highlighted feature might be the one that allows the external PMD-B100E to display on the in-dash display of the Pajero.

Here you can find an image of possible extensions of the Pajero's Alpine Audio System.

Good luck and tell us how it goes.

That's excellent Googling skills there aidenai !!

Yes, I agree that the radio itself does seem to be the DVA-9861E, but the touch screen is shown as a 7 inch unit in the Pajero brochure, whereas the PMD-B100E is a 4.3".

I wonder if the screen is a completely separate unit and not supplied by Alpine. Will let you know how this all shakes out in the end.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks again for your help.

Welcome CDNinKS. I hope you can find a good solution for your system.

Ok, will check all these options, but I do want the touch screen to work on the built in 7" screen. I am hopeful that I can use Garmin maps in one of these units.

  • Author

Well aidenai and nongkaidude are both correct.

The only unit that will integrate with the 7" screen is a unit from Alpine. I expected it to be a small receiver box remotely mounted. It is actually an Alpine PMD-B100E hand held unit that connects with the 7" screen. I was assured that it has dual language capability (Eng/Thai) however if I wanted voice (turn left, etc) then that was an added cost. The price I was quoted is B29,000..........that seems very steep.

OK, have been surfing around and found that Alpine makes a remote receiver that intigrates with Alpine touch screens and is about 1/3 the price quoted by Mitsub.

Now my problem is determining the model number of the 7" screen in the Pajero Sport.

Anyone know of anyway to find this out?

Will be very interested to know if the Garmin will work. As far as I know, the only units that are compatible are the Alpine ones and the Kamaz unit I have installed. This is what the Alpine distributor told me.

Please post back with your results.

Gosh glad I read this post. I am about to make the step to buy a Pajero 2.5 GT and thought that GPS was included. Now I see that GPS requires an extra add on unit. Is that correct?

I already have a Garmin Nuvi 255W with all my maps that I use in Asia and Middle east so I guess having a built in GPS is not a deal killer but it does take some surgar from the deal.

So what does the Alpine unit do without extra units?

DVD player?

Thai TV?

Clock?

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply.......

The stock screen will give you a clock display and you can view DVD's on it. If you want to watch TV, that is an add-on, if you want GPS, that is an add-on. Also if you add a reverse camera that shows on this screen as well.

DO we have an answer about GPS and the 7" screen. I juts bought a sport and got the GPS included. STupid me I assumed it was integrated into the touch screen. That was what the brochure showed and what I assumed (to my detriment). Now I am getting a hand held alpine unit included. Can it be integrated into touch screen?????

Can it be integrated into touch screen?????

The hand held unit they supplied to you should also have been installed with the interface cable to the in-dash 7" screen. I believe they route the cable to the glove box so you will plug the handheld unit in there. Once it is turned on you just select "Navi" from the touch screen and all should be well.

I have the Kamaz unit, so it is on all the time.

I had one of these with my new Pajero last month. Is it in english or thai or both? If it's all in thai I don't know that I want to spend the money to have it installed. Can it be used as an independent handheld - and if so how does it get its power? The thing is still lying in its box at present.

What are you referring to, the Alpine unit or the Kamaz unit? The Kamaz unit I think is both Thai and English, I can't remember as I am using it only in English. It is not usable as a hand held unit.
