Seeking Job Help.

Recommended Posts

I would like to ask for help on finding a job in Thailand. I am 46 and a retired police officer of 24 years with a large department living in the United States. I have tried and only come up with teaching jobs. If anyone has any ideas. I will welcome them with a smile. Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

Ok , first off, it will be very difficult to get a job here, keep that in mind.

Steps to take:

Join JobsDB.com and register your details

Before you arrive, do some research on the Internet about companies in your field and find out who you need to speak to / meet (Use Linked-In to aid you)

Book a flight over here and prepare to stay here at least 3 months, its not a holiday its a business trip

Have a look at this website http://www.bangkoknetworking.com/ it lists (nearly)all the networking events coming up around Bangkok, get to as many as you can, network, network, network (its not a holiday)

Get in contact with your Thai Chamber of Commerce (in fact as many Chamber of Commerces as you can and network)

Find a specialist Recruitment Company in your field (nope, dont know anyone, Google is your friend)

Get a Thai mobile phone Sim and an address in Thailand

Be prepared for a lot of hard work, on the phone and meeting people, remember its not a holiday

You will get rejected, you will not hear from a lot of people, you are not on Holiday

You will be very unlikely to get a job (other than a teaching job), but you never know

You will (most likely) not get a job here in Thailand sitting in your home country, get over here (its not a holiday)

Good luck :)

and remember if you come to Thailand, it is not a holiday

How can it not be a holiday? Ive been here for 5 years (working for 4) Right now I'm sitting in my appartment wearing nothing but shorts, because its so hot, considering what time to crack open my first beer and waiting for my georgeous Thai girlfriend to cook me some Thai food. I see in England that its snowing at present. Who isn't on holiday? P.S I found getting a teaching job was easy after doing a TEFL course here in Bangkok. I've earnt between 37000 baht and 100,000 baht per month depending on how hard I've worked, personally I would take less work, the lower salary and be on holiday more.

first. gorgeous thais dont know how to cook!

2nd 100,000 a month?

3rd its not that hot......

First - Yes they do, and some very well... Roast Lamb, hmmmmm

2nd - 100k per month is not a lot and just provides a hand to mouth existence with a few luxuries (i.e. dining out, wine, car, nice apt etc).

3rd - Its not that hot, but is very humid even this time of year.
