I see alot of thai language schools offering 1 year ed visa. But how about learning english?

I've been to prolanguage and they told me 18000B for 6 months...

univeristies bachelors would be around 16000 per semester.

Was there a question or are you just making a statement? ED visas/extensions are available for a number of education type studies. You just have to make sure with the school that your study will qualify.

Oh my question is is there such things 1 year ed visa provider for learning english.

Like walllen, prolanguage seems to concentrate on teaching thai with 1 year ed visa.

Cheers.

The school itself does not provide you the visa. It gives you the documents you need to apply for a visa at a Thai consulate. This will not be a “one-year visa” but a single-entry non-Ed visa valid for travel to Thailand within three months from its date of issue and on arrival in Thailand you will receive permission to stay for 90 days. Subsequently, the school will give you the necessary documents to apply for extensions of stay at the local immigration office. This is again not a “one-year visa” but extensions of stay for 90 days at a time. Strictly speaking, all this talk by schools about a “one-year visa” is wrong. What they mean is that if you enrol for study for one year you can go and get a single-entry non-Ed visa plus extensions of stay that allow you to stay in Thailand for a total period of one year.

None of them provide you a visa - you have to obtain that yourself using paperwork that they provide. In the case of language study one year extensions of stay are not being provided for most students - they have to extend for periods of 90 days only. You might be able to obtain a one year visa but that would only allow you to stay for 90 days without making a border run so the 90 day extensions at Immigration is what most people use.

Yes there is. Some sponsors here (and other schools) will help you to get 1 year ed visa for studying English if you are not an English native speaker. As the experts said technically speaking there isn't. But you can stay 1 year

There is what?

There is a multiple-entry non-Ed visa valid for an unlimited number of journeys to Thailand for one year from its date of issue and on each arrival you receive permission to stay for 90 days.

There is the annual extension of stay for certain types of study, but not for study of the Thai language at a private language school. The rules would allow an extension "up to one year" also for studying Thai but immigration currently gives only 90 days at a time

Maestro what you say is true. But the visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 1 year (with border runs). As I said " As the experts said technically speaking there isn't. But you can stay 1 year"

I saw some posts from one of your sponsors. He seems very helpful about the visa process. Can I mention the name?

No visa allows you to stay in Thailand for any amount of time - it is Immigration at point of entry that allows you to enter/stay. A one year visa means only that you can used it for a period of one year from date of issue to enter for stays of up to 90 days. Normally Thailand has been very good on allowing return stays but it is not a right provided by that visa.

Just as the normal tourist visa to the USA is valid for ten years - but it does not allow you to stay for ten years.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. I suppose this is valid also for multiple entry non O 1 year. Am I right?

Have you ever heard of somebody who was refused to enter to Thailand with a valid visa (except those in the blacklist)?

Yes it applies to the multi entry non immigrant O visa but as said it is very unlikely to be restricted. If you arrive drunk and disorderly or otherwise obviously not fit for entry they can and will turn you around. Not likely to happen without solid reasons.

I did look into it about a year ago...

The facts appeared then to be a FULL 1yr ED Visa [No Boarder Runs/90 day Extensions] are issued to people attending government run universities/schools on a full time basis........ One Private school I asked at, was also Full Time 5 days a week they said the ED Visa was for the full 12 months with NO extensions needed every 90 days...

The 3 Private schools I asked at were as stated above, the 1 yr ED Visa extended at Immigration with school paperwork + 1,900 baht every 90 days, these were Part time eg: 180 - 200 hours per year.

As I said this was about a years ago, so no idea of the up-to-date info on attending government run universities/schools

If permission to stay is based on 12 month visa, you will have to do border runs every 90 days.

If permission to stay is based on 12 month extension of stay issued by Thai immigration (issued for study at government sponsored universities/certain schools) then no need for border runs but you will have to report your address to immigration every 90 days. Otherwise will be 90 day extensions of stay each time for study (language schools, part time study etc) which need renewing with paperwork from the school and do address reporting at same time.

Language Express. For what I read they seem very helpful.

It is my experience the tuition costs charged by private language schools to attend english classes for a year are far in excess of what those same schools charge to learn thai for the same number of lessons.

Last time I checked; Callan, Pro, TLS, Language Express, MTL, etc, all offer the same service of visa facilitation for people studying english once a student pays for a year's tuition up front. I even believe Wall Street does it as well, (but don't hold me to that one).

I just called to two different private language schools and they said the procedure is exactly the same for non-native english speakers who want to study english here and will pay a year's tuition up front as it is for people studying thai at their school.

It goes like this;

The school provides the necessary paperwork and relevant MOE documents; the student leaves the country going to any thai consulate/embassy to secure a single entry 90 day Non-Immigrant Type ED visa. The student is then is provided with the appropriate paperwork every 90 days to secure an in country extension at Immigrations, as well as doing 90 day address reporting.

If permission to stay is based on 12 month extension of stay issued by Thai immigration (issued for study at government sponsored universities/certain schools) then no need for border runs but you will have to report your address to immigration every 90 days.

The above info is 100% correct; universities can and do issue paperwork which gives you a one year Non-Imm-Type ED visa that requires NO extensions only 90 reporting. It is because you are pursuing higher education, usually some form of degreed study curriculum. I have seen these visas stamped into several foreigners passports who currently are attending government sponsored universities/certain schools like Thamasat, Chula, Mahidol, Kasetsart, etc

(edited for clarity.. :) )
