Crackdown On Water Pipes

Water pipe sales controlled to reduce bombs in the South

BANGKOK: -- Water pipes have been put on a list of materials which are strictly control in Thailand’s three southern border provinces in an attempt to reduce insurgent bomb blasts, the Interior Minister Pol. Gen. Chidchai Vanasatidya told journalists on Monday.

The move comes days before the first anniversary of the army crackdown on suspected militants in Krue Se Mosque and fears that the insurgents may step up bomb attacks.

Government security forces stormed the mosque in Pattani province on 28 April last year and killed dozens of lightly armed Muslim men who had sought refuge there after a foiled uprising.

''There is no need to give a lot of importance to this particular day when our officials are always on alert,'' Minister Pol. Gen. Chidchai, who is also a deputy prime minister, said. The 28th is a good day as Thai people celebrate King Bhumipol's coronation, he added.

Officials need to tightly control certain materials which could be used to make bombs, including water pipes and prepaid SIM cards for mobile phones, the interior minister told reporters shortly before meeting national security officials to discuss the surging violence in the provinces of Yala,

Pattani and Narathwat.

The minister also told journalists that he was unhappy that militants were still able to continuously carry out attacks despite the government’s tight security measures.

''I acknowledge that I am annoyed and sad that officials failed to prevent the latest bombing in which explosives were hidden inside a fire extinguisher. But I want to condemn the militants for hurting innocent people,'' said Pol. Gen. Chidchai.

On the advise of official intelligence, the government has issued a warning to officials to be on high alert against possible militant attacks on the anniversary of Krue Se, according to the Defence Minister Thammarak Isarangula na Ayutthaya.

Water pipe sales controlled to reduce bombs in the South

Sounds to me like some government officials have taken one too many hits off the crack pipe. Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up... :o

Well this along with the registration of sim cards is bound to stop those pesky bombers :o

totster :D

Sure....why not.....We all know about pipe bombs......((((((<

Has there really been that many bombs made out of bongs that the government needs to tighten control of them??

Soon they'll all be late for work when the sales of alarm clocks will be forbidden. :o

I'm just waiting for them to ban fertiliser. :o

I'm just waiting for them to ban fertiliser. :D

Nah that's impossible - it would be difficult to gag all those MP's. :o

I'm pretty sure controls were imposed in Northern Ireland, for this very reason.

You know, for burning (and thus explosions) to occur, it requires oxygen... I sense a crackdown coming...

So there is nothing for us to worry about in Bangkok :o

Another stupid comment from a member of MoST (Ministry of Silly Talks) :o

If they just abolished clothing they would have nowhere to hide either bombs or guns. But I guess that might not keep them from hiding grenade launchers...OUCH
