On Friday Morning, Police and Rescue Services were called to the train track road in Nong Pla Lai located on the Eastern side of Pattaya to deal with a fatal road accident involving a motorbike and a tractor which left a 2 year old boy dead. Witnesses explained that the young victim was travelling as passenger on a motorbike driven by Khun Wilai aged 38 who looks after the child while her parents work. It appears that she failed to see the tractor reversing onto the main road until the last minute and as she attempted to avoid a collision; her bike clipped the edge of an attachment on the tractor used to grind earth. The woman was seriously hurt and rushed to Hospital while the young boy was killed after he was thrown onto the road. Furthermore, the tractor driver fled the scene before authorities arrived and is currently being sought by Police.

Two Year Old Boy Dies in Tragic Motorbike Accident

Children's Day celebrations ended tragically for one Pattaya family, when a two year old child and his sister were involved in a fatal motorbike accident on the Leab Thangrodfai Road.

Pattaya, the 8th of January 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 10:00am on Friday, police Lieutenant Pradit Lekdee (Pattaya Police Investigator) received a report that a fatal accident involving an infant had occurred on the Leab Thangrodfai Road, Pattaya. A team of police along with medical personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation rushed to the scene to investigate.

At the scene officers discovered the unconscious body of Mrs. Wilai Sapso [38] lying on the roadside next to the severely damaged remains of a Honda Wave motorcycle. The body of Master Munin Chomsriwan [2] was discovered lying dead on the road having suffered from a fractured skull and broken neck as a result of the accident. The body of Master Chomsriwan was sent for autopsy whilst Mrs Sapso was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A brief police investigation revealed that the motorbike, ridden by Mrs Sapso had collided with rear end of a tractor and trailer that had been travelling on the road. It appeared that Master Chomsriwan had come off the motorbike and died instantly on impact with the tractor whilst Mrs. Sapso was thrown onto the road in the collision. The child's mother Mrs. Boonmi Chomsriwan arrived at the scene where she subsequently fainted as a result of witnessing her beloved son's death. Medical officers rendered first aid to the inconsolable Mrs. Chomsriwan before police reluctantly asked her for a statement.

In a brief interview with Mrs. Chomsriwan she explained to police that Mrs. Sopso had been taking her brother, Master Chomsriwan to the Muang Pattaya 1 School to witness the Children's Day celebrations when the accident occurred.

Police interrogated the driver of the tractor, Mr. Charng Suphitip [30] who was standing next to his vehicle in a visibly distressed state. Mr. Suphitip explained that he had been reversing his tractor and trailer onto the roadside when he saw the motorbike approaching, the motorbike subsequently collided with the rear of his trailer that was encroaching onto the road. Mr. Suphitip stated that he was guilty and wanted to apologize to the baby's parents for his involvement in this tragic accident.

Mr. Suphitip was arrested and taken to the Banglamung police station where he will be charged with negligent driving occasioning death and remanded in custody following further judicial proceedings.

you cannot really blame the driver of the tractor unless he actually broke the law, which from what i can read, he hasnt, he was only reversing.....

the only person to blame is the driver of the motor bike whom should have seen the tractor reversing, but also should NOT have had a 2 year old on the bike WITHOUT a helmet , which killed him...

Articles like this should be forced into the minds of Thais to educate the outcome of driving with minors on Bikes without helmets.... i just hope she wasnt travelling ' up the road ' which could have been a walk..

sorry about the rant, but things need to change as this happens weekly or not daily in Thailand and can be easly change

Who writes this garbage, earlier we had the son referred to as 'she', and now we have the mother fainting at the sight of her son who then appears to become her brother in the next sentence, unless there was a third person on the bike that has not been mentioned elsewhere.

On another note how in the hel_l is the tractor driver to blame for this? Unless he just pulled onto the road at speed directly in front of the bike, but he was reversing onto the road. It seems the usual here is to ignore people reversing anyway, all this looks like the bike rider was not paying attention from the reports.
