Problems With Search Function

Featured Replies

This morning I used the search function, typed in Night Safari and got a whole pile of topics, nothing on the Night Safari.

Every time I use the search function I have the same problem, the search seems to be very general and does not take you directly to the requested topic.

Any tips or ideas would be most welcome.

Cheers :)

The search here sucks. I use google.com for anything local

Yep. TV Search function is a pile of .....

Best bet is to go to Google and type

<search words> site:www.thaivisa.com

That way you get some sense. I think the problem on TV is that it lists all messages with ANY of the words you type as key words rather than ALL the words. So using any general keyword will always produce a load of irrelevant URLs.

See below for the Advanced Usage Help. I use it regularly with no major problems if using the below techniques.

//edit - also, if you use the Google Custom Search in the top right it's not necessary to use the Google "site:" function

And the Google Search Features

I just tried night+safari and still got all the irrelevant drivel.

Why don't you just admit that the search function is flawed and do something about it...

Search for

"night safari"

Choose Show results as POSTS

You will get plenty of relevant hits.

Cheers.

I'm not going to admit something that isn't true for me as shown nicely by Jingthing's example below. Learn how to use it and it works well. The only issue I have is the minimum number of characters allowed in the search.

I always used advanced. To get meaningful results, you NEED to. So what's the problem exactly? There is nothing to fix. The tools are all there for you.

Guess you need to point out where the basic search function is as there are only 3 search boxes available. The advanced search button in the top right, the Search button which uses the Google Custom Search (BTW - using "Night Safari" in that box gets lot's of hits) and the bottom left of the page is the Topic Search. The pull down list under Forums toolbar selects the Advanced search also.

It's up to you if you wish to use the tools correctly that the forum supplies us. As I said, I have no problems and I suspect the mods/admin use the search function more then most. You have the info now and there is nothing to change and as such I have no reason to continue this discussion. If you feel a change is needed then you can contact support[at]thaivisa.com.
