Singaporean Man Murdered In Thailand

RIP. Condolences to the family.

It's sad to see a human being's life was taken this way. Hope justice and Karma will prevail.

Very Sad indeed. Lets hope the police get an arrest soon but it doesn't detract the fact that another "old" falang is dead. It wouldn't surprise me [not counting road deaths] if a woman was arrested as most "falang" deaths in Thailand there's a woman involved. Well that's my baht worth, again Sad indeed.

it was not a robbery, so the first suspects are the closest family/neighbours or business associates (if he had any).

It seems self evident to me that it was a robbery!

A long term resident of thailand is found with some foreign currency - emphasis foreign, not Thai.

So his Thai currency was taken, and the thief (if he is one and the same as the murderer) was smart enough to anticipate a conversation that would go something like 'Please, Kon tamruat, Somchai today, him change Singapore donlah, kah!'

Why would the perps leave currency ? No Think again...

Like many other businessmen who have gone before - upset the locals and grab too much business from them and they remove the threat. If funds and a passport were left - stands to reason they did not need either. The investigation into the murder should at least be towards competitors and business associates and who would want him dead. Does not reverse the fact of a brutal murder but it reminds us we are very much in a third world country trying to give the impression it is a 21st century player. As with any Mafia (Italian, Russian or Thai) the gruesome remains are a reminder to others who would step out of line. :)

Third world? Second I believe? but all of this is pure speculation - we don't know...

RIP

Thanks for the link Sigi. More detailed than US reports, unless it's a sports or movie star...

The Thai Police are doing a good job, imho. From the linked article;

"Pol.Lt.Col Niwat claimed the case was not too complicated and they only had to wait for more evidence before making an arrest."

Lets hope so!

It's sad to see this happenning in Thailand so often.

It's reassuring to see the Pol.Lt.Col's confidence and I look forward to a successful prosecution and appropriate lengthy punishment for the perpetrator(s) of this heinous crime ASAP. Good Luck to the BIB.

In anticipation,

Brewsta.

very fast investigation, the cops might had a tip off or the murderers were recorded criminals and left their fingerprints or dna.

still, it's more than a robbery going the wrong way - the victim known murderers, let them inside his home and handed some parcel (flat tv?). Than shortly after left his home to meet them and was obducted, tortured (fresh scars on his face) and killed - not for the 3k baht in his wallet, nobody premeditates murder for that small money, and to be shared between several people. The murderers were not the drug junkies, but probably property owners, had a motorbike and a van.

interesting to know, who the couple are and who is the third murderer.

in an earlier report was "Police found approximately 5 pairs of shoe prints around the area" and "a group of men came out of the van" - so there are more than 3 murderers.

Three arrested following death of Singaporean in Sriracha

14th January 2010

On Wednesday Morning, the body of a Singaporean was discovered in an area of wasteland located in Sriracha District. Mr. Teo Ah Yau aged 69, whose passport was found close to his body was lying on the ground and his hands and legs were tied together with nylon string and a belt was tied around his neck. There was also evidence of trauma to his face. Forensic evidence was plentiful at the scene of the crime and later on Wednesday Police went to the victim's house and found that items had been stolen and information from neighbors suggested that three people, 2 men and a women had visited the house on Tuesday Night and appeared to be arguing with Mr. Yau. Items were then taken from the house and Mr. Yau was also seen to leave the house moments later.

On Thursday Morning at Sriracha Police Station, after an investigation which lasted less than 12 hours, Police Major General Tanaert, Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, announced the arrest of three people in connection with the alleged murder of the Singaporean man. It was revealed that the female suspect, Khun Benjama aged 29 was having a relationship with the victim and her Husband, Khun Wirat aged 47 soon became aware of the extra-marital affair. Assisted by a third man, Khun Suchart aged 36, they paid a visit to the victim on Tuesday Night and demanded items from the house in compensation for the affair. Items were taken and it is believed that Mr. Yau was lured to the location of the murder to speak further about the relationship. When he arrived at the location, he was set-upon by the two men who have confessed to his murder. All three suspects are facing serious charges in relation to the murder and will be held on remand pending a court appearance.

so not a robbery as I have suggested, and not "robbery going wrong" as the murderers confessed.

what a naive man to meet with strangers nightime.

look, like careful is the wording of the title "Three arrested following death of Singaporean" and in the text "with the alleged murder of the Singaporean man", as if the paper tried to white wash this crime

I have been around long enough to wait before commenting. In this case the facts will be unsettling for many people. The Pattaya Daily News seems to provide a more accurate statement of the facts, at least it is one I consider more reliable than Pattaya One's report.

The reason I say unsettling is that one of the accused is described as a "service girl" that had an ongoing relationship with the deceased. It seems to have been an opportunistic robbery gone horribly wrong. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call for those elderly males that thing that their "service girl" possesses neither husband, nor boyfriend and truly enjoys the client's company. Whenever one allows a prostitute into his home or has an ongoing relationship with a prostitute, one is inviting crime. Not comfortable reading for some, but the reality. More often than not, the murders we read about are the direct result of such opportunistic crimes.

Although murder is wrong, and this is an unfortunate crime, I have zero empathy for the deceased. No, I'm not being judgemental because prostitution was implicated. Rather, the deceased has to take some responsibility for his demise as common sense would tell anyone looking at the accused woman, to run away. The accused has a face that screams out I'm going to rob and murder you one day. I don't know what some guys are thinking when they engage in such risky and dangerous behaviour.

Suppose so.. as if it was a real thief then the fellow wasn't very bright for not taking the money

Wonder what his wife looks to inherit in Singapore?
