Hi all.

I need to have some parts made that look like table legs, round with a taper

they need to be made in a very hard wood ,

what is a common hardwood available in Thailand ? reasonable price ?

I was going to go over to the woodworking area across from the weekend market to see about getting them made,

is that the best area ?

thanks for your help

:) The most common hardwood in Thailand is My Daeng lierally "Red Wood" not sure what the english name is. It is very hard when we were building our house it was burning before cutting. And no it wasn't a dull blade.

reasonably priced not as much as My Sak -Teak, seems widely available

Hope this helps

Hi

Does anyone know the species name of this wood ,

I need to see if its legal to import into the USA, there is some problems with pests and certain wood species.

I hate to have Customs / Agriculture take them from me !

thanks

Well the great idea of having something made across from weekend market did not work out, mostly empty shops this morning

Anyone know of places making things using a wood lathe to make something like a baseball bat , not a bowl .

Thanks

Lots of great teak in Thailand. My son who is a cabinet maker in Canada would go nuts if he saw all the beautiful wood here.

Hi....

thanks for your help, I found the place in Bang Sue,

I took MRT till the end and then a taxi, it is way too far to walk to, even if you know where it is !

Soi 24 is the one to go on, there is a little on Soi 28 the first few hundred yards including a big lumberyard,

I found a shop doing lathe work and they are going to make me a couple samples,

most of the tools I say were low quality, I figured there would be more wood hammers, chisels, etc but did not see anything,

they probably make there own wood hammers

I wish this shop was a little more modern as I need to get some specific radius done and they are really not set up for that, its more freehand.....

I will report in when I pick up the samples
