I have heard that you can come to Thailand on a tourist visa and then get a 1 year multiple entry Non-Immigrant B visa from an unnamed company. I have heard that this company has a way to get one and you have to go to Poipet, Cambodia each time for your 90 day run. Can someone shed some light on this? Is this possible to get while in the kingdom on a tourist visa? It's a bit more pricey but not sure. What I do know is that you have to have the non-immigrant b visa issued in your home country.

I have this info from a good source...

To obtain such a visa in home country normally only requires company letter asking for it. That type of visa is used by business travelers. You can not obtain such a visa while inside Thailand on a tourist visa - you would have to leave and obtain the visa and then return.

If any company is doing this while you remain in Thailand it is not a legally obtained visa and you would be subject to legal proceedings when cought.

Are there any neighboring countries that i can get that at without having to go back to the states?

Countries in the area will not issue multi entry without much more paperwork than a letter. If not in home country the expectation is that you plan to work and can obtain extensions of stay and not need a multi entry visa. In fact one of the requirements for a B visa (single entry) issue is the application for a work permit.

That last part is not true. You don't have to apply for a work permit application on a non-immigrant B visa. If you start a company and want to work then you have to apply but the non-immigrant B visa doesn't require you to submit one. I know because that is what I'm currently here on and I never had to submit one. I'm an investor looking for a business to buy or start.

Not really what was meant!

You indeed do not have to apply for a work permit when you are on a non immigrant B visa, but the other way around. You need the non immigrant B visa to be able to apply for a work permit.

However, local consulates/embassies (neighboring countries), will possibly refuse to issue you a second non immigrant B visa on the pretext that you had enough time to got yourself a job/work permit while in Thailand on the first one. They will only issue you one when you can show you applied for a work permit.

They will only issue you one when you can show you applied for a work permit.

And that is the key to Non-B visa issue in the region.

You do not need a visa to apply for a work permit. You will receive Form WP3 receipt from labour office on acceptance of work permit application. You will need to show the consulate abroad Form WP3 receipt (showing that you have applied for work permit) before they will issue the visa. Will be single entry visa first time around, but can obtain multiple entry visa later when work permit is available (or alternatively obtain extension of stay based on employment from Thai immigration if you meet the requirements). When you have your Non-B visa you need to go back to the labour office who will want to see the Non-B visa in your passport before issuing your work permit.
