Help Me Plan My First Trip To Thailand :)

Featured Replies

I am heading there Dec 20/05 until Jan 14/06. All I have booked so far is my airticket from Vancouver to BK.

I am going with my girlfriend and since I don't know too much about the area I was hoping some of you could suggest some sort of itinerary for me :o What areas to look at staying etc

We are mainly interested in spending our time on the beaches, a little bit of partying here and there but not too much :D

Also looking for reasonable accomodations (but not too expensive or extravegant)

For this time of year is it necessary to reserve accomadations ahead of time?

How much will I be looking at?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :D

Almost 8 months until your departure..How about you helping yourself a little, then maybe coming back with a few specifics so we can fine tune them.

If you click on search at the top of the page and type in "trip to Thailand",selecting all forums you will get seven pages of good info to give you some great ideas.

OK – As has been said, you have plenty of time to do a bit of research, but at that time of year a certain amount of pre-booking will be necessary if you want to be sure of the best hotels (for value that is). However in some areas there are so many hotels, the chances of not finding a room at all are virtually nil.

Areas of interest – well There’s Chang Mai and the north for a bit of culture and cheap souvenir hunting.

Down South you have Surathani and the island of Koh Samui. Quite touristy but still has good “get away from it all” beaches. On the other side of the peninsula there is Phi Phi and Krabi and then the isle of Phuket; a little more up market but now desperate to get tourists back after the Tsunami. The place is in full working order I’m told, and there should be some bargains to be had still.

In the east of Thailand there are the islands of Koh Samet and Koh Chang. Both are relatively quiet. Koh Samet is about 2hours from Bkk plus a boat ride (no cars) and Koh Chang is further east towards the Cambodian border. It’s the 2nd biggest island in Thailand but has the least to do being little more than a collection of relatively over-priced resorts.

You will almost certainly fly into Bangkok – hot and sweaty, temples markets and shopping, you could be forgiven for giving the place a wide berth and flying/bussing/taxiing to you chosen destination.

Oh and I almost forgot – Pattaya – sun, sea, sand and DON’T BRING YOUR GIRLFRIEND!
