i was doing some thai language classes up untill last month which i admit i struggled with, now i have returned home to the u.k, i want to return to thailand in a couple of years and since im only 42 and cannot get a retirement visa i need to find a way of getting a work permit and earning some money, i have a house in khon kaen and the only available option for me i see is the tefla course allowing me to hopefully get a teaching job. its 27 years since i left school and my english was ok then but now ive forgotten a lot of things, would anyone advise me to go back to school in uk to pick up on my english and if so what type of course would help me. i want to go ahead in the tefla course next year with confidence knowing i will at least stand a chance of passing it , now i do not think i would. its the only way i can get to live with my wife in isaan , she hates it here in the u.k.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

thankyou

Hello there, you should have a diploma in something. Many TESOL schools say they will guarantee a job if you have a B.A, and if you don't they will introduce you to their contacts. (the schools in Pataya). I am studying Thai, that got me here for a year visa, then I will think about the TESOL course as I am short of retirement and won't get a pension for 6 years. Get in with education visa and then try and find work on the side, if you can.

Truly great advice................seeing as how what you are suggesting is illegal.

To the OP

We have a volunteer option. Through the DSS Foundation in Chiang Mai we can arrange a 1-year non-immigrant O (volunteer) visa and volunteer work permit for you if you decide to volunteer 4 hours per week for our education foundation in Chiang Mai after you complete our TEFL certification program. A degree isn't a requirement of a volunteer visa. However, you will need to supply a police clearance. More details on our website:

http://seetefl.com/thailand-volunteer-visa/

We can also sponsor your application for a 1-year non-immigrant ED (education) or B (business). There are conditions and requirements. Contact me by email and we can discuss your various options.
