Settlement Visa (bank Statements)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Basically I have just returned from 4 weeks in Thailand doing the wedding and honeymoon thing and we were meant to hand in the visa application before leaving but my wife wants to take my name on everyhting(her friend did and convinced her it made it easier to get visa even though I have tried to tell her it makes no difference)so we have had to delay handing in our application until she goes back to Udon changes her home book,id and passport meaning that the bank statements I supplied for my accounts are only up until the 20th December 2008 going back 6 months.

Is this ok or will they want statements up until the end of this month when we hand in our application?

Just wanting to know as after the 4 week holiday my statements dont look so healthy anymore.

Thanks for any help James.

If they require any further information they will generally ask for it.

Sorry i missed that your bank statements are from December 09 ?

My Wife still has her Old Thai name Make NO difference. It just delays things Getting a new passport Ect

You say your bank statements are 2008 dont think they will be suitable. Guess you may mean 2009. From my understanding they use the statements to concur with what you told them you have coming in i.e minthly wage etc don't think the balance is an issue. If it is savings account then that is something different. But I am not an expert just going by what I am learning as I go along, will be submitting Spouse visa next month for gf who will then by wife to come to the UK. She is not chanigin her name.

Good luck

Sorry guys yeah my statements are from about June 2009 - december 2009 my head is a bit mixed up still after 4 weeks in Thailand.

I have 4 accounts - 1 personal, 1 business, and 2 savings accounts.

So I am hoping that will be ok as they each show a average monthly balance along with the total balance plus I got my local bank manager to certify everything.

Just dont want to supply anymore as I said the 4 weeks plus wedding cost has made a big dent in my money.

As for name changing I can not make her change her mind she has got it in her head she needs to and wants to so I gave up trying,it would have been ok but we didn't know that you cannot change your home book anywhere apart from your home town that is why we have had the delay.

Thanks James.

Personally, I would get copies out to your Mrs covering the last 4 weeks at least, to put in with the application. Your statements are already a month out of date and if there is a delay in your application going in they may be nearly 2 months out of date. This may mean the ECO feels the need to contact your Mrs for up to date statements obviously delaying your application. They are not looking for a specific magic figure, only that you have money coming in regularly and a general level of money in your account to cover your expenses and any overdraft is an agreed one. Explain that your latest statement is a little lower as you were in Thailand for 4 weeks and got married. They will understand this costs money.

If you are 100% comfortable with this, the bank statement aspect will not be an issue.

Is it me, or does the above post make no sense?

Why should he be unhappy about his wife taking his name?

Whether she does or not, bank statements will be an issue as he needs to show he has adequate financial resources to support her in the UK.

I agree with CharlieB.

Sorry if my comment was not clear - as the OP is aware there is no real advantage in the UK visa application process by ensuring that the partner has adopted the married name on everything before applying for the visa. But by doing so means that the couple must wait before they can make the application hence it is something of an unnecessary delay and I wondered if the OP was truly happy with that delay.

Thanks for the replies,

I'm sending more paper work to her today so i'll add my recent bank statements to that even though as I said they dont look as healthy anymore but I very confident that I have proved that I have a regular good income and little savings to meet their requirements.

I'm more than happy to have her take my name just its added more hassle and a delay to the whole process plus I really wanted to be with her when handing in the visa.

Have you included a supporting letter from yourself in the application? If not, you should do. Make sure this is updated to include a sentence letting them know that your balance this last month will be lower due to the holiday and marriage. Don't expect the ECO to join the dots themselves. It's a game of laying breadcrumbs for them to look through your paperwork and understand all the things you have included and why so they can put a tick in their boxes.
