Dusit Poll: Grilling should be held soon

A survey conducted by Dusit Poll on Sunday revealed that nearly 50 per cent of the respondents would like the opposition to bring a no-confidence motion against the coalition government soon.

The survey on people's thoughts on the opposition's plan to file its motion of no-confidence against the government involved 3,326 respondents.

49.46 per cent of the polled wanted the grilling to take place so the government would clarify the irregularities found in the administration to the public.

32.18 per cent said this would not be the right time for a no-confidence motion because since the government still had many problems to tackle and people should give the government more time to run the country.

On the issues people would like the opposition to raise during the potential grilling in parliament, 38.77 per cent wanted to know about the irregularities in the government's Thai Khem Khaeng economic stimulus scheme, followed by the delayed appointment of a new police chief, the cancellation of the online lottery project and the government's borrowing that led to higher debt in the country.

46.71 per cent said a no-confidence motion would allow people understand the facts and information from the government and its opposition. Other respondents believed it would encourage the government to work more transparently and cautiously.

30.35 per cent objected the idea of having a no-confidence motion because it could slow down the government's work. 25.58 per cent said it would bring about more political conflicts. 15.92 per cent said they did not want to see politicians making inappropriate gestures during the censure debate.
