Other expat countries India
All of his posts follow the exact same formula. He pretends to make some groundbreaking discovery about a place, usually a discovery that’s completely off the mark, and then plays the role of bumbling fool, just to sit back and enjoy the spectacle of everyone trying to educate him on a topic he clearly already understands. He’s done the same routine with the Philippines, with Thailand, and probably a few other places I’ve lost track of by now. It’s like clockwork. Every 8 to 12 months he’ll churn out another post about Pattaya, declaring how disappointed he is, how boring it is after spending the first week there out of his four week planned holiday, how he’s utterly disillusioned, and how all the expats there are just a sad pack of washed-up old, lonely drunks. The last time he pulled this same folly was on March 15, in another new topic he titled “To become an expat.” Someone called him out by linking all his past posts on the same subject, and his response? “Oh stop taking life too seriously you surly old miserable git !”, which, of course, just confirmed he’s always been in it purely for the windup. He’s not confused. He’s not curious. He’s just having a laugh at the expense of anyone who takes his bait. He just a cheaper and more dumbed down, attention-seeking version Bob Smith. -

Investing for safe returns
A zero bond is an investment but doesn't give a regular income. Stocks that don't pay out profit , don't give a regular income. Is a 2-4 % interest payment per year a good investment ? Even when inflation is at that same level or even higher? There are days gold goes up 1 or 2 % . Yes until I sell and lock the profit in, there is no return. At least the money is not in the hands of bankers. -

How stupid is China for retaliating to Trumps tariffs?
One hopes there isn't an unintended (or maybe intended) consequence, similar to when the US put an oil embargo on Japan, in 1940 (a former ally). -
