CM4Me
My partner arrived home this afternoon with 4 tomatoes, each were bigger than a tennis ball, very red & sweet smelling, about 1.5 - 2 kg. They were bought at a local farmer's market, total cost B10, yes ten. I would like to grow these from seed, if possible. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated Kevin
soidog2
Gently cut open the tomatoes. Find some implement to scoop up all the seeds. Some flesh will inevitably come too. Take the whole mess; put it into a fine strainer and rinse the seeds really well until all the flesh residue is gone.. Carefully place the seeds on a paper towel and allow them to dry thoroughly.. Optional, especially if you are not going to plant right away, you may rinse them in a mild bleach solution to avoid funguses and other nasty stuff. Now you are ready for planting. track61
That will work fine if the original tomato's aren't hybrids. Hybrid seeds do not reproduce. Don't ask me why but I have been puttering around here trying to grow the perfect tomato for 5 years. I have won a few, lost a few, and a few were rained out.
