roscoe Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 just an idle thought ,but if we had a spell checker on the post composition board who's dictionary would be used ? OED? Amerenglish?(sic) Pidgeon? Who's? Or would it defeat the object of cross culture spontinaity that we all enjoy. I told you it wasan idle thought
Ajarn Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 Being a very crappy speller sometimes, I'd love to see a spell-checker. I think every message I've ever posted here has an edit line at the bottom...

buadhai Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 If you use Mac OS/X it has a system-wide spell-checker that you can activate in any properly written application. Checks spelling as you type. It flagged this: "colour" as misspelled!
astral Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 What's "Amerenglish?(sic)"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just a tad worse than 'strine.
Neeranam Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I say <deleted> to spelling and writing writely, except maybe the Thai language bored. As long as we ken the general story and jist.

Kringle Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I wish I could find a translation site (like babelfish) from Thai to English as most of the business websites in Thailand don't have English versions.

bangkokian Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 It is good to be reminded of the forum's rule/etiquette. Availability of checkers would hopefully make me more mindful and responsible in this regards. I am certainly guilty of being too lazy to correct erroneous spellings and other mechanics for the most part. In any case, I am prone to making mistakes even with my best attempts: English is, after all, not my first language. cobra Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Even with spell checking, you still have to proof, lest you end up with errant word substitutions ... in was right their in front of them ...
