Which Passport To Use?

Featured Replies

Hullo all. I am fortunate to have two passports because of my parent's original nationalities. I will be applying for work permits and so on shortly. My question to the wise is this: which passport will be looked at more favorably by the good powers that be? I will list 5 nations to remain a little confidential. It would be great if you could put them in order of value/popularity/Thai seeing them as nicer than the ones below. They are:1. USA 2. Germany 3. UK 4. NZ 5. Australia. Or ask your self : If you were applying now, which passport would you like to be showing at the Immigration offices? thanx in advance

Doesnt really matter which passport on the list you use, just be consistant with it.....dont do your WP one year on one passport then decide to change the P/P the next....

Agree it doesn't matter, as long as you only use that passport.

USA as they have far less restrictions concerning jobs they are allowed to do. It is a leftover from an agreement from the past (Vietnam period) that should have been corrected a couple years ago when Thailand became a member of the WTO, but I guess, is not corrected yet.

Please do your homework.

I met many Americans who even did not know.

I have two passports.

One with 30 pages and one with 40 pages, I use the one with 40 pages.

If you have a US passport this might be of interest.

U.S.- Thai Treaty of Amity

If you are planning to apply for permanent residency in the future then pick the country with smallest population.

Dont believe the concessions you talk about are to do with jobs US citizens are allowed to do, but more to do with the ability of a US citizen to start a buisness easier with less restrictions.

In the OP's case this is irrelevant as he has already stated he is getting a WP from a company...

Based on the OP monikor, would guess he has a British P/P and either a Kiwi or Aussie P/P as well, not sure why he asked his question in a convoluted way....should have just stated which P/P he has, no big deal...I have two P/P's as well

Assuming you are in Thailand, your work permit will be based on the type of visa in your passport.

Assuming you are not in Thailand, all of the 5 passports are ok for work permits.

However, you may also wish to consider other aspects e.g. Which countries have troops in Iraq, Afghanistan ? Bear in mind there is islamic unrest in the south of Thailand and some nearby countries have islamic populations. Some jobs in Thailand require travel to Malaysia and Indonesia.

Absolute rubbish....what point are you trying to make....I am in and out of Malaysia and Indo all the time carrying a passport of one of those countries which has troops in Afghanistan and have never been treated with anything other than countesy, which is a big difference from the way Farangs get treated in Thailand sometimes...

Amen to that, Bro' Southpeel. Indonesians and Malaysians are far more amenable, as are Vietnamese and Lao.
