I have been staying in Thailand on toursit visas but am wondering if anyone knows of other options for me. I came from the US with my boyfriend who is Thai and working in Bangkok. I'm just not sure if I could qualify for a non-immigrant O visa. He is supporting me, but I don't see anything for this type of visa that sounds like my situation. We plan on getting married at some point, but in the mean time I was hoping for a more permanent solution - not tourist visas. Not to mention, I'm not sure if I will be able to get any more since I've had quite a few back to back. Thanks!

Getting married would make it a doddle for a foreign lady with a Thai Husband.

Otherwise you could take Thai language lessons and get a Visa that way.

Or go to the Thai Consulate in Perth Australia. They would issue you a Non O Multi Entry Visa for visiting friends . This would give up to 15 months but would need a border run every 90 days.

- get married

- get a job

- get 50 years of age

- if below 50, study thai

thats so far the legal options ;-)

where the first one will be the most easy and cheapest (calculated on personal expenses) way.

working here (for real) is also not so serious in getting permits and visas arranged

beeing over 50 requires to proof some sort of income, and the learning thai way requires to be registeres on a licensed school ...

In reading the posts here regarding friendly consulates to obtain an O visa, Perth Australia, seems a shoe for issuance of this type of visa if people own property or have a thai family member. I have neither. I'm from US and the issuance of an O visa for purposes of visiting friends does not appear to be an option. The states seem to have closed this avenue down and are relucant to issue on these grounds. Why so, is a topic for a different day.

Has anyone had an luck with any canadian consulates?

Returning to Perth, it seems more of a role of the dice as to whether you'll be turned down for an O visa based on the reason of visiting friends. Has anyone out there been turned away or know of peple turned away from Perth for the non immg o visa based on friends only. I'd sure hate like he l to get all the way out to Aussie land just to roll the dice.

Perth and Brisbane are not a role of the dice, they now require that you show a copy of the ID-card from a friend in Thailand with a short note asking for a visa for you. If you can provide that, no problem. Without they will not issue for visiting friends.

Non-immigrant O visa for visiting friends . . . . . So, all I need is a copy of my boyfriend's ID card and a letter from him requesting me to stay for a year? From other posts I have read, I would still have to fly out every 3 months (which I could fly somewhere and back in the same day). Do you have to pay for any extensions or is flying out of the country every 3 months enough? Other than Australia, are there any other countries that give non-immigrant O visas for the purpose of visiting friends? This sounds like it could be a solution to my problem until we get married.

Within the region Perth is the nearest consulate that will issue multiple entry Non-O visa for visiting friends. Signed copy of Thai BF ID card/passport is essential. Signed supporting letter is useful. You will get 90 day permission to stay on entry and will need to do border runs every 90 days. Do a final border run just before your visa expires to receive new 90 day entry, stretching your visa to 15 months. Depending where you are located, there are companies which specialise in providing border run services. Bkk-Cambodia is around 2,000 baht.

Have a look at the Perth consulate website here.
