I've had some stomach woes since Saturday night, but I will hold out and deal with them until I get back to Japan. Here, I am more likely just going to be giving pills, and the wrong pills will mess me up worse. :D

So how much are you averaging on your daily spend? :)

Go to a pharmacy and get some activated charcoal.

I don't think he has the budget to afford it. :)

You can live so cheaply if you needed to in bangkok. i dont get why people say its expensive. 'tight <deleted>'

thai style room, 2,000 baht a month, get your own shower in your room... all good

food venders are cheap as hel_l startng from 10 baht...

to travel get the boat along the river, 12 baht.

beer from 7/11, 25b onwards

i was spending 5,000 baht a month and i was doing so much site seeing and other things along the way.

i didnt need to live cheap but saved so much cash at the end to spend on presents for myself, family and friends

i stayed for 8 months in thailand.. cheaper than back in england. :)

5000 a month in bangkok? No chance.

I refuse to believe this, 40,000 baht for 8 months.

The poster may have been on some sort of starvation ritual to get from 500 lbs to sub 200.

Rent 2,000 baht per month, no mention of water and electric, that leaves 100 baht per day, to buy food water soap shampoo etc etc, sorry the above is BS.

Can only assume you werent a hansum man, now I know why the term farang kee nok was termed.

I'm still here. I just posted in the Health section this morning as my stomach has been messed up.

I will be returning to Japan on Thursday morning, and should have a report/recap on this whole life episode written up before Sunday.

I am sure TAT will be delighted to receive your report - your visit is just the type they are wanting in their effort to stimulate the Thai economy and the tourist industry. :)

At approx THB 800 a day you will barely survive, in fact unless you are really in the know it will be impossible. You've been here before, do you honestly think you can walk to the airport. Don Muang was the airport in your day, now it's "Swampy", much further out.

You should head for Korea if it's cheaper. :)

Korea is not cheaper. Who mentioned Korea? He did say he may go to Taiwan.

100 baht per day is really easy to do.

I took the advice of another poster today and went outside my front door and set foot in possibily the most beautiful place on earth, the 3 metre high wall obscured my view somewhat, any way I ventured out into the street.

Breakfast, bowl of jok and bottle of water 30 baht.

Lunch, guay tiaw and bottle of water 40 baht.

Dinner, kao man gai (piset) and bottle of water 40 baht.

Thats me at 110 baht already, and havent been anywhere or done anything.

I am now starving, typing this as the mrs knocks me up some food.

As the poster above says 100 baht a day real easy to do, 1,000 baht per day is even easier to do.

For those who can survive or exist on 100 baht per day, what exactly are you doing all day?

You guys must be the new high quality tourists we keep hearing about, but have never seen.

I believe you can eat for 100 baht a day, to do that you need to go fresh food market, egg are 2 baht each, Thai vegetable cheap as well.

For cooking off course you need a gas bottle / a ring and a pot. / microwave / rice cooker

I saw people cooking this way and I will said it is more healthy as most of the stuff you buy from the street vendors who add in them take away the sauce / sugar / too much oil / and msg.

I do eat for a max of 700+ baht for 3 days with food from the fresh market, that is include Pla Kapong / duck fillet / fresh tofu block / the chicken lady bone my chicken every time / my beef lady dice my meat / from the vegetable guys he order beetroot / celery / leeks / continental persil and my soup is made from cherries tomatoes + chicken bones, offcourse adding cheese / wine and special items, I will spend more. But yes i believe you can eat from 100 baht if need too.

Three meals a day is a tad extravagant. :) I have some fruit for breakfast and a decent dinner every day. More than enough.

Yeah, that's fine for one day. Try living like that for the rest of your life. And as for your 5000 a month in bangkok...I know plenty of thais who earn double that and really, really struggle. So, how long did you live in bangkok on 5k a month and how did you do it? Where are these 2k rooms? How much did you pay for your electric, water, laundry, internet, phone, transport, drinking water, food, entertainment, clothes, beer?

i only lived liked that to see if i could do it..... and i did, even tho i had plenty of money.. easy when you know how . not living like that again tho, it was hard. living it up next time (well in august) to about 15,000-20,000 baht a month lol

the water rates were like 7 baht or somthing close to that and 20- baht for electricity. There is hundreds on places like these just gotta get out the main tourist areas. my thai friend used to do my laundry for free :)

thai sim card 49 baht. 50 baht every 2 weeks on it. cheaper to call than txt too.

2 large bottles of water 20 baht from 7/11.

used my thai friends computer for internet. or 100 baht for 10 hours worth..

beer 7/11...25 baht onwards

Sory to hear.

May be my answer is a bit late, but I'll post it anyway for future use or someone who needs it now. Go to any Thai pharmacy asking for 'Fishing Pills' (Thai= ya-med-toke- bed). Take 3 times a day, 5 each time, cost around 40 bahts for an orange plastic bottle for 100 pills.

This little black pills work miracle, most Thais carry in their purse.

i dont want to poke a hole in the op's concept of being some sort of extreme survivor but really what was at risk during his stay in lol, he had a return ticket to japan, a job waiting and most likley a credit card in his pocket for emergancies. on the other hand i know a man very close to me who came to south east asia on a one way ticket, with less than 300 dollars in cash, no credit cards, nothing to return to and a pocket full of iou's from people who never paid. this survivor made it and has been living well for the last 14 yrs. imo that is a guy with a story to read.

I Agree Mac man. I never stated that I was actually in some dire situation as if all else failed I could really just live the bum lifestyle until my return flight date came up. I've had the opportunity to enjoy a better time here than I should've (i.e. I've been eating desserts indoors, and other such extravagances). I'll post a report when I leave of what went wrong, what went right, what I would've changed, etc.

BTW, I do not have a credit card. I've never owned one (I've seen the big debt it placed my younger sister in). At most, I had a debit card, but the last time I had one was about a year ago.

Sorry no time to read through all his topics started on here, too much to catch up on the upcoming antics.

Did the suitcase saga have a happy ending?

I am sure it has been suggested already but have you not thought about donning a red shirt and sticking round for a few days?

You may be able to finish that shopping after all

The 2k baht rooms will be found in any Thai area, for instance Krungthonburi, near to Wong wan Yai BTS station walk up Soi 1 Krungthonburi first Soi on the left 200m down and you will see a sign on a building advertising rooms from 1400bht/month, walk up Soi 1 another 200m and you will see a soi on your right adjacent to the 7-11 down 100m there are rooms for rent for the same money, keep in mind all these rooms are within a 10 minute walk of the BTS. If you walk around a Thai area and can read Thai you will see an absolute Jit Load of rooms for under 2000 bht a month. They are clean and basic, no air con, shared "bathroom" and most would be 20-30 Sq meters in size.
