Guest Houses In The Old Town Area, About 1000 Baht

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been done to death, but...

Need to find a guest house or hotel inside the moats, or at least near them, near the sunday walking street, for my fairly elderly aunt and uncle coming over to chiang mai end of next week. Price range up to about 1200 baht or so. I have in mind a sort of family run guest house with a nice garden or eating area that is at least fairly peaceful for most of the time. But not the 200 baht type since they will want some decent home comforts, and walls thicker than paper. I imagine this price range is top range for travellers, bottom range for hotels, so there must be some nice guest houses out there.

Two that i will investigate are MD house in rachawiti road and ramma guest house in the same road.

If anyone's got specific recommendations, with name and road name, it may well save me a bit of foot-stomping in a particularly rare busy period for me!

The Top North Hotel is set back from the road and has a swimming pool to hang out by and English TV. It is about 1,000 baht.

I know its not the same as a personal recommendation of one Guest House but its possible you may find this website interesting written by one enterpising guy.

I 've just noticed that most of these guesthouses are budget priced so you might find something more suitable on here ;

I highly recommend the Tapae Place Hotel, located in Soi 3 off the Tapae Road.

It`s a small 4 storie hotel and has a lift going to all floors.

Air con rooms with Cable TV and on suite bath and shower room.

Serve moderate American breakfast at 60 baht.

Cost from 850 baht high season, from 650 baht low season, for a large double room.

Here is their website:

I stayed at 3 Sis Bed and Breakfast for four nights when I came here, and I really liked it.

The room was pretty basic clean and nice, with a hot shower and the usual stuff. There is a big and peaceful hanging around -area in the lobby, and a restaurant.

I had a double room, which cost 1 200 a night. I think a single was 1 000.

It's on Phrapokklao Road, on the corner of Soi 8, which is basically in the Sunday Market.

Well worth checking out, methinks.

Gap's is quite nice... has a little courtyard and wireless internet. Popular with flashpackers (not the grubby kind) and just couple minutes' walk from the Gate. :)

Thanks everyone for your replies and ideas. Some walking for me at the weekend!

Great work by that chap in compiling his two lists of guest houses and hotels. Good link!
