Because the internet site is down for the umpteenth time here in Chiang Mai, I was forced to go to an internet site at another location. And, the one I picked is full of kids playing games. Two voices were particularly annoying and on closer inspection discovered that both the noisy kids were little guys telling the other kids what to do. I should have brought my video camera to record it. :):D

Only women scream.

Obviously you have never been to a internet cafe in Thailand full of kids playing games. My first trip to Mae Hong Song I wanted to check my emails, found one place with a couple computers and no customers turns out the computers did not work, next place 3 floors of kids play games, would be quieter next to a 747 taking off.

Even half an hour in one of these gamer cafes is excruciating. The guys have no sense of cool whatsoever they scream at full volume over nothing at all. Like a bunch of riled up monkeys.

This is what happens when people are on a "tight cultural leash"...they cut loose whenever & wherever they can. And thank a god that they can cut loose...it may help to prevent some of that rage that tends to be bottled up by heavily controlled people.

Look at the size of the tourist (invariably non Thai) who somehow squeeze into the pedal rickshaws for sight seeing treks around town. Worth a couple of chuckles.

I feel the same way about tennis players.

Get a grip on reality, they're kids playing video games, they're loud everywhere in the world. Go to any gamer cafe in Asia and it's the same thing if not worse.

But asia is not THE WORLD. I am sure there are plenty of quiet facilities in the UK where u can go online. People have a Library association with internet. I recal using it in Libraries when on my travels.

The one point I really liked reading though, was , the kids have no idea about "cool". So so true.

Yeah i know what you mean Forbesy.

I thought i was well acclimatized to noise pollution in LOS, UNTIL i walked into the confined space of an internet room diectly after school hours..UN-believable!

Was planning to stay for an hour but had to bail out after 30 mins, my ears and head just couldnt take any more. :):D

As is always the case, a few minutes after leaving i thought again from another perspective, as elkangarito mentioned, they are only kids having a bit of harmless fun, which might serve them against going off-the-rails in a more destructive way.

Truth is, in our western culture todays kids arent satisfied with these simple pleasures, they'd sooner be out hooning around, beating up on someone, or taking drugs. :D

My internet is still down so I am back at the same place listening to the kids. I do like children, so I can put up with the hollering, but it WAS change from being on the internet in my own room. I enjoy seeing children having fun, but I do believe that the internet games are too addicting to the younger kids.

Oh, and I'm not sure what all the sticky stuff is on every keyboard I touch in those cafes. I'd hate to have a forensic test done and read the results. :) The little blighters pounding away on the keyboards are a constant source of every communicable disease going around. :D

Oh Good.

:)

Now we have a thread where we can come up with some generalization about shorter people as well.

Wonder how it would have been if we tried out, lets say, making fun of gays, or fat people, or females in general?

Ohhh noo :D , we cant, because thats sooo bad.

Would have been sooo much more interesting if the OP raised the question about why his "little guy" was making noise.

:D

I dunno, maybe he just thought he could play the game better than his bigger friends. He sure did have a gruff voice though. He was there again today telling the other kids what to do. Kind of made me laugh because his bigger friends just tolerated him. Maybe he was just younger, but had more experience than his older friends. :D

Finally, after two and a half days the internet in my hotel is finally running again ... but for how long, I don't know.

I think Randy Newman said it all :)

Short People song by Randy Newman

The lyrics are as follows;

Short People got no reason

Short People got no reason

Short People got no reason

To live

They got little hands

Little eyes

They walk around

Tellin' great big lies

They got little noses

And tiny little teeth

They wear platform shoes

On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People

Don't want no Short People

Don't want no Short People

`Round here

Short People are just the same

As you and I

(A Fool Such As I)

All men are brothers

Until the day they die

(It's A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody

Short People got nobody

Short People got nobody

To love

They got little baby legs

That stand so low

You got to pick 'em up

Just to say hello

They got little cars

That got beep, beep, beep

They got little voices

Goin' peep, peep, peep

They got grubby little fingers

And dirty little minds

They're gonna get you every time

Well, I don't want no Short People

Don't want no Short People

Don't want no Short People

'Round here
