Three 14-Year-Old Boys Killed in Motorbike Crash on Their Way to Celebrate End of Term
There's numerous angles to blame for the daily slaughter on the roads: education; corruption; even genetics. When compulsory seatbelts were introduced in UK there was some initial reluctance. Police enforcement was rigorous and the casualty rates fell until even the reluctant fell into line. In Thailand the police are lazy & inept. This lack of regular enforcement means helmets are rarely worn; red lights are a mere deliberation; speeding (the main killer) is ignored. She has started asking for money
Years ago, a bar-girl that I knew asked me for 50,000 baht for an urgent operation for her mum, who had been involved in a bad car accident and gone through the windscreen. I politely declined and she sadly said OK. 2 days later, I learnt from another foreign friend that he had visited her mom in hospital, but that she died due to lack of funds to pay for the required operation 😞 The 30 baht scheme is not universal. You need to be registered as a Thai person into that scheme. Her mum was hill-tribe, and therefore not covered under the scheme. -
