Teacher goes on rampage, kills his ‘gay lover’

SAMUT PRAKARN: A college teacher in Samut Prakan went on a jealous rampage yesterday, killing a man believed to be his gay partner and repeatedly stabbing the man’s girlfriend.

Somkid Phannimit, 38, a teacher at Samut Prakan Technology College in Bang Pu district fled his college apartment, where the incident took place, after stabbing to death Chamnarn Chuvong, 40, following a quarrel.

After killing Chamnarn, Somkid then attacked Kwanhathai Insuwan, 38, who was waiting in Chamnarn’s car outside Somkid’s apartment, stabbing her more than 10 times.

He then drove his pickup truck over Chamnarn’s body as it lay on the street. Kwanhathai who was seriously injured, was rushed to hospital.

Arun Kamnerdnon, a witness and one of Somkid’s colleagues, said that Chamnarn had regularly come to visit Somkid at his college apartment and the pair were rumoured to be lovers.

Police suspect that Somkid’s actions may have been provoked by the discovery that Chamnarn had a girlfriend.
