A Supporting Letter From A Thai Friend. What To Say?

Featured Replies

In another thread, I was informed that in order to obtain a non-imm Visa, I would be required to show a supporting letter from a friend in Thailand. (I'm under 50, so it's not as easy for me to get a Visa as the retired folk).

I asked about this letter further - but I haven't got to the bottom of exactly what's needed.

I'm assuming: That she knows me, and how long she's known me. A stated intention to see me in Thailand (invitation?).

What should my friend write?

Will a printout of an email suffice? Or does it have to be a postal letter?

Should there be a picture of her ID card?

Someone mentioned that she should state the "nature of our relationship". Do they need to know this??! Or do I need to imply the possibility of marriage and lie for the purposes of bureaucracy?

Every time I go to the Immigration office within Thailand, does it have to be in her city? (To maintain appearances?). I will be there , from time to time, but I like to travel to many places in Thailand.

It is a very simple letter asking for a visa for you, together with a copy of the ID-card. Stating the nature of the relationship might be in order, but certainly doesn't need to be planning to get married. It is for visiting friends.

Don't know if they will accept an email.

You will have no dealings with immigration in Thailand, only at the border when you enter and leave Thailand. Based on friend you will not be able to get an extension of stay, so you have to leave every 90 days.

In which consulate do you intend on applying.

All consulates have different rules.

Never heard about the possibility to get a visa (not a tourist visa, a non immigration visa) with help/invite/a letter from a thai-friend.

Maybe someone can push me in the right direction, I would like to find the thread Inasia is talking about.

Someone knows about this way to get a visa and can tell me something about it. Or have a related link?

Is it country-specific? Possible in Germany?

Cause staying 90 days without requesting an extension sounds to be much more easy than getting a tourist visa for 60 days and then requesting an extension.

Thanx,

kainer

Based on visiting friends is podssible in seevral countries. In Europe Hull, in England is one of the honorary consulates that will issue. You could also try Amsetrdam. I'm not sure about german consulates, if you try there try it at a honorary consulate. They tend to be the easiest ones to give a visa.

I'll be getting the visa in Brisbane, Australia. (I'm British though).

My previous thread, where I was given advice to obtain a letter is here:
