Personally I hope that new immigration Police Commander gets round to arresting all these fraudsters living in Pattaya -- The three associated with Gary B are not the only ones -- The South Wales news reported a while ago a Taff called Rees who was sending goods to his cousin -- The cousin was had for handling counterfeit goods and mony laundering. I personally will tip them off about any I find. They are a disgrace to Britain

Yes we would all like to clean the city up in one way or another to make it better place to live.

If I was the new immigration Police Commander the top of my list wouldn't be the likes of some guy who's been selling fake golf clubs, it would be the disgusting, senile old predators that trawl these sois looking for some, let us say "temporary companionship" with someone that could easily be their daughter.

There's no fool like an old fool.

In Pattaya I always pay 99 baht for my Ray-Bans and I bought a beautiful YvesSaintLaurant tie for 50 baht a couple of months ago

Joking aside, is it safe to buy 'fake' sun-glasses ? I always buy the genuine article as I'm concerned about UV damage.

I suppose that everybody is aware that the mark up on golf clubs is 100%?

And like many other products with ridicules high mark-up's controlled by the manufacturer you can expect to find "grey market" items on Ebay for a fraction of the manufactures list price, so you can expect that the purchasers would be annoyed when they found out they were fake let alone the fact the fell to pieces when they hit the first ball.

What is the difference between ‘ fake’ and a Replica ??

I think it's a patent infringement to sell items with the correct logo/name on it ? Therefore perfectly legal to sell if advertized as a ‘Copy’

You see many big Companies that sell the genuine and the ‘Replica’ but there marked so + a huge price difference

Of course it is illegal to sell ‘fake’ or ‘Replica’ as a genuine item………

I looked into in depth some years ago in the UK, and as long as you describe the items as a replica/copy then it is perfectly legal.

Yes but part of that means that it can not have any brand names labelled on them. And I guess the draw is to have a watch labelled "Rolex" :) or golf clubs labelled Tailormade or Nike or whatever.

Links to "replica" site removed.

OK. just appears a little odd... do a search of 'Replica and Customs' or 'Replica and the Law' both appear to be legal in the UK and the USA [new law passed in the UK about replica guns]

As asked: What is the difference between ‘ fake’ and a Replica ??

It would appear that a replica of anything [car, house, interiors, watch, golf clubs etc etc] are perfectly legal..

yet a fake is illegal... are they not the same thing? both are copies of the orignals

No. Fakes have the original brand names and/or logos on them. Replicas does not. The posts deleted showed such as site that "claimed" to be replicas but was in fact fakes.

OK many thanks…

Just a quick question.. Something I know about.

The German Pond filter system is very good, but cost over 40,000 baht..

You can go and buy one that looks the same but Made in China for 3,600 baht..

The only difference on the box is a large ‘Made in China’ all the rest is in German and English..

On the filter itself [NO the top is not moving + no back wash] the only marking on the maid in china one is where it came from ‘China’….. The instruction book is the same.

The genuine German one has marking.

So am I correct then in thinking the one made in China is a Replica ? as not got the German marking?

The instruction book + box then is a fake?

We are getting off topic here, also please read the following Thai Visa rule

16) Not to post about gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing etc and other activities that are officially illegal in Thailand.

You're getting very specific now. I'm not a lawyer but in my opinion: If it does not claim to be a brand name by using the original brand name and/or logo then it is a replica. To be a fake it would have to use the original brand name and/or logo.

Rimmer: I don't think we are discussing fake goods as per the rule here. We're discussing the definition of when goods are fake or replicas. I think there's a difference.

Rimmer sorry, sure i am not the only one that was not clear when a copy is a replica or when its a fake.
