Teacher's License For Work Permit

I know a Teacher's License is needed for a NonB extension, but I am on a non O extension and thus don't need one, but is it needed to get a Work Permit, thanks?

Lets see. First of all a teachers licenses is not required to extend a non-b visa, a valid work permit is. Depending on what your work permit is for as to if you need a teachers licenses. If your work permit is for teaching then yes you need either a teachers licenses or a waiver for a teachers licenses. If your work permit is to train employees in a factory, no, you don't need a teachers licenses.

Well it's the opposite where I live! The Labor office don't ask for a TL or waiver letter when issuing a WP but the immigration office do when extending a Non-Imm B visa.

Ok. So IssanGeorge the best thing would be to go to your immigration office and ask them exactly what documents they want to see. As Skyblustu and I have completely opposite experiences with immigrations. The immigration department where I live only want to see valid work permit and school documents.

For when you return with all the required documents, the next person working will probably require something different altogether.

Depends on where you are teaching. If for a private school such as a language school, no Teacher's Licence required.

Some immigration offices insist on a TL or wiver before they will give an extension of stay. In addition, it also seem to deend on the nature of the school. I'm not sure about this year, but last year immigration only wanted to see a Tl or wiaver for persons working at a government school, not for private schools or universities.

I work at a Private school and had to show either a TL or waiver letter at immigration when applying for my extension, as did the other foreign teachers when they applied too. It's only if you work at a language school or University you are not required to have a TL or waiver letter by immigration.

But the OP is asking about whether labor will want to see one when applying for a WP. They don't ask where I live but, as usual with Thailand, it's different depending on where you live and some labor offices do want them. Best option is to call them or drop by and ask directly.

With a few exceptions (Language schools and Universities being two), a TL or a waiver is needed to get a Work Permit. Because the rules are not applied in the same way in every area does not mean the regulation isn't there. There is, and always has been, a great deal of variation in how regulations are applied. This is true with the granting of different visas at different embassy/consulates as well.

These variations may work well for applicants, but the day comes when a new officer is appointed to the office and decides to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Then the problem begins. Sometimes offices have always done it a particular way and just never change--until someone retires. Sometimes people with an existing WP will get renewed but a new applicant will not. Lots of changes start with a new applicant, while existing WP's will be grandfathered in. They don't often go back and review everything on a renewal.

In Bangkok I have to show a TL in order to renew my WP. Of course, this is Thailand and maybe the next fellow with have an entirely different experience!

I've had the same experience. We have a nice administrative assistant who does all this for us, but she points at us, shows them our TL and give them our paperwork.

I still don't have a teaching licence (even though my qualifications should be ok and the paperwork was submitted 3.5 years ago.....) but I do have a valid work permit. The clerk in charge insists that we don't even have waivers, none of us (I've tried to figure out several times how it goes exactly).

Perhaps other posters from your area could post their experience. It could also be because the application was made or it might be a case of having gotten the first one, they just keep renewing it. I know that once you've been approved for something, they seldom go back and double check the paperwork.
