counrikke
Hi there, I thought this would be the perfect place to ask as i've asked questions before and got wonderful responses. I am looking to spend 2-3 months in thailand, seeing thailand etc just relaxing and nothing specific. I was wondering, are people on tourist visas able to rent a condo for some time? I'm looking to stay in Chiang Mai. Thanks ^^
Mario2008
Can't see why not. But you will need to give a deposit of maybe two months, as is normal. Financially you will need to take that into consideration.
gotlost
The only thing you need to decide is location and cost.

counrikke
so I shouldn't really have a problem? Are there any other requirements? I mean, other then my visa? passport? anything like that? Thanks all.
Guest
There is normally a security deposit equivalent to one months rent, plus two or three months rent in advance (depends on the condo owner). Any damages, outstanding electric bills etc will be deducted from the security deposited before you get it back.
counrikke
sounds good. I've heard people say 200 USD $ is probably a safe bet for a monthly fee?
phetaroi
Are you talking about a condo or a serviced apartment?

johndpoole
I was just told as non-thais can buy condos. Is this true? Does the not owning land not apply to owning a condo and does one even need a visa?
Mario2008
The law stated that owning land is not allowed, it says nothing about owning a condo and that you can indeed own. But in a condo complex there must be a majority of Thais.
Chicog
The law stated that owning land is not allowed, it says nothing about owning a condo and that you can indeed own. But in a condo complex there must be a majority of Thais I thought the Thais have to own the majority of floor space, which is not the same? Also, I understand that certain unscrupulous Thais have flogged condos to farang when they aren't supposed to, so you need a lawyer as well?
