My Tot Adsl Is Terrible - Do I Have Any Options?

Another problem could be simply that your modem/router has a HW problem. I remember now having similar symptoms (disconnections) and TT&T (in Krabi) were searching long, before they replaced the modem and everything was fine. Its worth a try (if you have a spare one).

I've got TT&T Maxnet (now 3BB I guess).

The modem they gave me has died, but I have delayed asking for a replacement because I don't know if they will charge to replace it.

Anyone know about this?

When you get modem from any of those service provider initially, make sure you keep whatever packaging you received (box, plastic cover etc..) for a year. The reason being that your service provider can do a one to one exchange with the vender otherwise you may have to pay for the repair by the vendor.

I observed that I get an IP address of 113.x.x.x assigned using the new "Best Fit" package. When I log in with the old account, I get 125.x.x.x.

It seems that the traffic of the more expensive packages is separated from the rest.

Scooter: would be interesting to see from which address range your IP address is. Try "checkip.org". It displays "Your IP:..."

Is it possible that only the 8M/1M packages get higher QoS? If you have no other choice than to stay with ToT, I would upgrade from 8M/512k to 8M/1M. Maybe this does the trick. But if you have total service interruptions, there must be another problem, of course.

I've been distracted by other problems so far this week and have made no progress fml. But I always get 125.x.x.x for IP...

  • 3 months later...

I really appreciate your advice but almost all of that is over my head unfortunately.

I opened the command prompt and entered in "ping -t www.uchicago.edu" but it's been pinging indefinitely for hundreds, maybe thousands of pings, doesn't seem to be going anywhere...

pingingindefinitely.jpg

I need to hire a specialist I suspect to play around with it - any recommendations for a network specialist in Bangkok?

[**Dodobird, sorry your msg is over my head also :) FML**]

I saw there was one timeout in the output listing of the ping... When you were sitting there for 20 minutes, did you see this often?

I think you have noise on the line probably in the building. The transients are disturbing some packages but not all.

To find out, try to ping with longer packets. The default is 32.

This packet size is so small that if you have a 50 or 100 Hz noise on your line it will not stop the packages as they are shorter than the interval between the noise transients.

You can extend the number of bytes to, I think, max 60000 using the -l switch (in windows, is is -s in GNU/Linux)

The timeout can be extended with the -w switch.

try with

ping -t -l 200 -w 30000 www.uchicago.edu

This will send 200 byte and wait for a max 30 seconds before it give a timeout error

Maybe try to ping to something local instead: for example ns.loxinfo.co.th that has ip 203.146.0.20

ping -t -l 1400 203.146.0.20

approx 1460 byte is max for the server in this case. It will drop packages if you try anything bigger so it is of no use.. You also have the MTU set to 1492 so it will probably cut the packet size to this anyway and send additional packages to reach the number you ask for.

I get this which I think is normal

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=1 ttl=244 time=55.5 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=2 ttl=244 time=57.5 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=3 ttl=244 time=58.7 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=4 ttl=244 time=59.6 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=5 ttl=244 time=56.6 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=6 ttl=244 time=57.0 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=7 ttl=244 time=58.4 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=8 ttl=244 time=61.1 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=9 ttl=244 time=59.2 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=10 ttl=244 time=58.8 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=11 ttl=244 time=56.8 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=12 ttl=244 time=57.4 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=13 ttl=244 time=58.1 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=14 ttl=244 time=56.9 ms

1408 bytes from 203.146.0.20: icmp_seq=15 ttl=244 time=58.5 ms

try and see if you get more errors with 1400 byte compared to the 32 that is default.

If that is the case you have a noisy line,,, go to the landlord and ask him to test the internal cabling and then have him call TOT.

Hi guys thanks for your help - this was actually awhile ago and, I'm half-embarrassed and half-scared [Murphy and I never really clicked] to admit, that just when I was ready to throw up my hands in the air concede defeat [after not really fighting much of a battle at all]....it just kinda starting working not so bad.

I didn't question it.

I didn't attempt to find out why.

I just held my breath and tentatively remained quite still hoping against hope it would....hold.

Been holding my breath for a couple months now. I'd exhale but I fear incurring the wrath of my old nemesis Murphy and his Law/s.

I mean, it's not *great*...but it's good enough. To allow my sanity [what is left of it] to remain more or less intact. So long as I move very....slowly, I don't think I'll startle it.

Im stuck with TOT on an 8mb down and 1mb up. I dont get 100% of what's advertised either, I dont have the same problems as you, but have had some awful experiences.

Keep on at them, perhaps suggest that they come out and check the line at your building. I have had line issues before and once repaired my experience improved dramatically.
