Hello,

I am a 22-year-old american who has been in thailand since November. I came in with a tourist visa. In December I went to Vientiene to get a non immigrant category O visa. I was able to do this because I was working for a non profit foundation. I stopped working for the foundation before I could get a work permit. The non-immigrant O will expire on March 21. Is there a way to extend that visa in Bangkok? Or must I go to Laos and get a tourist visa before then?

I have been looking on this site for what I should do. I think that it will not be possible for me to extend that non immigrant O visa because I dont have any supporting documentation to show why they should extend it. Will the tourist visa in Vientiene be a 60 day with option of 30 day extension? I believe this is what I have found but can someone verify this please.

Thanks you any input.

Maximum extension on Non-Immigrant visa is 7 days, and with sight of air ticket out of the country within that timescale. Realistically you need another visa. You can obtain double entry tourist visa from Vientiane which, with extensions and a border run in the middle, would give you nearly 6 months stay. Or if you plan to stay longer term you may wish to consider a trip to Perth and obtain 12 month multiple entry Non-O visa on the basis of visiting friends. 90 days permision to stay on each entry, and a final border run just before visa expires will stretch visa to 15 months. You would need to take with you signed copy of passport/ID card of Thai friend and short note from friend to issue visa.
