Germany still uses pfenning coins, as well as 1, 2, and 5 Deutschemark coins.

Germany switched to Euro and Cent already some years ago.

There are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 Cent coins and the bills start with 5 Euro.

@ Kerryd

if you still have German Pfennig and Mark you can still change to Euro but in the Central Bank only.

[bump] with an update:

Edit: Just measured a 1 baht coin: 20mm diameter. Have to take care not to confuse with the only fractionally larger 2 baht coin.

they are a fair bit thicker also john , you notice them when you get them in change.

Got my first one almost a year ago , and I recieved another in change the other day.

Wow... so they're already out there then, eh?... Didn't know that and look forward to seeing my first. I was hoping there'd be some way to distinguish them and it sounds like they are with their thickness and weight. Wasn't sure about the posted weight of the 2 baht coin as I could only measure the length of the 1 baht to compare. I haven't weighed anything by the gram for a long time... :o

Thanks for the info.

No worries SJ, if you give a 2 baht coin by mistake to the baht bus driver in Pattaya, he's surely going to change you 1 baht then. :D

About the only time you'll get a 1 baht change from the mafia boys is if you give them a 100 baht note... :D

Don't worry about the cost of re-programming vending machines.

If they go with steel as the material no machines will be able to accept them anyway, the validation systems just don't like highly magnetic materials :o

If we do get mechs. to accept there will be a roaring trade in all the little engineering shops making blanks to use to buy your ciggies or ride the skytrain / metro.

We shall see.
