The Special Lawsuit Committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, has designated this as a special case to address allegations involving 138 senators out of 200, alongside two reserve members. Despite prior inactivity from the Election Commission, the DSI is now armed to investigate potential illegal conspiracy and money laundering linked to the rigging scandal. Allegations point towards connections with the Bhumjaithai Party and its influential figure, Newin Chidchob. The scandal involves claims that scripts of electoral numbers were distributed by politically affiliated individuals to select candidates to manipulate the triple-tiered elections. The DSI’s investigations focus on tracking financial transactions through suspected senators' bank accounts, which could substantiate charges of money laundering and conspiracy. Reports suggest the provision of free lodging and covert meetings with rigging organizers at nearby hotels during the national senatorial elections, laying further groundwork for conspiracy allegations. Should these charges lead to convictions, the implicated senators risk losing their positions and having their assets seized. Many implicated senators have reportedly backed Newin's faction in parliament, and a guilty verdict could result in their immediate disqualification, marking a pivotal moment in Thai politics.
