How on earth can you be spending money on that <deleted>, I bet some expats are having a ball spending your money right now! :)

I'm not sure what you meant but I don't think you understand what those are. When you logon to internet banking you have a username and a password - then it asks you for the number from your security device. You press the button and it issues a random number that you then enter into the computer. Without that device and the number, you cannot logon. It ensures that it is actually you logging on.

You can't use it to access your account or "spend money" in any other way - and it doesn't cost anything, they are issued free when you open your account. There are companies other than banks that issue these as well, such as online poker sites.

actually it's you who doesn't not understand :D the pictures i posted are some the devices (identical technology) that clients of big multinational banks use. you don't press a button but the device generates a different six-digit number every 60 seconds. of course i have to log on with username and password but then i am asked to type the number shown by the security device to gain full access to my portfolio and i can buy or sell any asset, make transfers or swap currencies.

none of the security devices create "random" numbers. if that was the case the counterpart (server) in the bank wouldn't be able to verify the validity of the access, id est to check whether the generated unique code belongs to the device associated with the account/portfolio.

by the way, it does not ensure that "it's you" (or me) who wants access. it only ensures that the holder of the device wants access. if i lose my device and am stupid enough to note userword and password on the device than the finder has no problems to log on.

= typical answer of somebody who is totally ignorant of international banking procedures :D . the reason why i use that "<deleted>" since years is that without them i have no access and i can be sure that my accounts are not hacked. the devices are free of charge for the client (bank pays ~80 dollars), the life time of the device is 8-10 years.

question: why would some expats (besides my wife who has her own devices) be able to spend my respectively our money?

i am sure your answer will make any reader of this thread laugh out loudly :D except... if by now you realised that... ok, tell us what you realised.

The title " Get rid of your local bank" has not gone down well with HSBC. It was a Thaivisa soundbite and certainly not theirs. They have distanced themselves from it.

Bit like the 6000 guns stolen, the imminent tropical storm and the assassination of Abhisit. Where do they find these topic title writers

and while you hack away on your keyboard you SHOULD start thinking about which company I work for and what I actually do in Thailand, but I guess being conclusive is not your style, is it...? :D

I can reveal it's not gardening. More Basel related stuff. Get the picture? I'm sure you don't, but that's it in nut shell...

sure! you are the resident CEO of BIS, that's the reason why you have not the faintest idea of common international banking procedures :)

Sorry for being unclear, it's a guy thing between me and Naam. I know what they are, trust me, and I know the banks that uses them. And I know how international banking procedures work, despites Naams desperation. In fact, I didn't learn how they work, it's even better...

Regarding the "security device", I'd say you're spot on. And since HSBC was being discussed, HSBC DO use exactly these devices in Thailand and almost every other country, especially for corporate banking in Thailand, even though the plan is to start using them for other verticals as well.

No, I am a lawyer and I specialise in supporting and guiding banks transforming internal processes and supporting transactional systems to achieve compliance with Basel II. I have 16 years experience from banking including countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Helsinki and Tokyo. My current assignment is with one of the major Thai banks. The transformation program includes all processes and transactional systems related to any transaction subject to compliance, and was initially planned as a 5-year project. When the project is completed, I am likely to move somewhere else to perform similar compliance related work in the banking world. Sorry, but I can not disclose the name of the bank.

Your Honour, Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury... i rest my case :)

I guess what's even funnier is that there are a few others here on TV who knows that you're a fake (I make that judgement based on the number of PMs I've received mentioning this! Frankly, I dont think you have a single degree in anything, you appear to be completely foreign to academic principles, especially when arguing.

To put it frank, you show every existing attribute displayed by the average german when they get international. To be honest, I liked it better when you came in a tank. Unfortunately the "big, better & best"-syndrome you lived by back in those days still shows. Sad, if you ask me.

Naam,

I agree with everything you said. Look at the quotes again. I was telling the guy you flamed he didn't understand.

he digs his own grave and then claims he is preparing a flower bed.

Look at the quotes dude. The guy told you you were full of <deleted> or something and I said he did not know what those devices were for.

This series of posts is a waste of bandwidth but there isn't anything you said in your post that I did not already know or agree with. Obviously those numbers are not random and obviously it is not proof it is you logging on - but the numbers are different each time you press it and instead of writing out four paragraphs explaining it like you did I summed it up in one word as 'random' and obviously there is no way to verify it is actually you logging on because even a retina scan could be faked if I cut your eyeball out of your head - but that device + a password + a username is pretty dam_n close so I simplified it by saying it proves it is you.

If you wish to continue this nonsense you can do so alone, I was sticking up for you, nice that you are now deciding to be a dick to me for it.
