Singha Gold Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I was very happy this morning to see the main page story on the Nation (Not sure if I'm allowed to link) talking about patenting the Korat species here in Thailand. It took me a long time to finally track down a beautiful little native Korat last year and she has been so worth it. My only problem was that the photo they had under their headline isn't a Korat but a Russian Blue or a British SH. Then in the text on the main story they quote "green eyes that turn to amber when fully grown" when in fact this is the other way around. Until about a year and a half the eyes are amber turning pale jade green. I guess Thais do need more education about the indigenous cat species after all! Can't resist throwing in a picture of my beauty – here's what they should look like..
niveknedwob Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I guess ... simplisticly ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_patent applies here ?
Musongman Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I think they patented the name of the breed not the cat! Reported recently as the Korat cat, it has another Thai name altogether. I think they are a magnificent creature, and if I was allowed, I would have one.
