Radio

Featured Replies

Let's say one wanted to start a radio station in Thailand. Normally someone like the RIAA gets paid for copyright purposes. Is there an equivalent organisation in Thailand? Where would one obtain a licence to broadcast?

Thank you.

Contact the Thai Public Relations Department for details about licensing. http://prd.go.th/ They run that show... As I recall, the training for a broadcast license lasts 30 days. Basically, it covers the laws and customs, and also how to turn off/on a transmitter...

Yes, there is an organization in Thailand that collects royaly payments, but I can't remember the details. I'd assume the PRD would have the info on this, too.

The link to: http://prd.go.th/ isn't working.

If "prd" stands for the Public Relations Department, the correct URL is http://thailand.prd.go.th

Although, I wasn't able to locate the path to the issue at hand, i.e. a licence to broadcast in Thailand on that site.

Thanks for the url correction. I actually copied and pasted that from a gov website :o

You won't find much specific info on these websites outside of contact info. It will defintely take at least a phone call, but more likely a personal visit, to get your answers. That's the way it works in Thailand. Email is not usually a viable option here for answers to such questions, in my experience
