Photocopy Of Passport Needed At Kl Embassy?

Am going to the embassy in KL tomorrow for a tourist visa, does anyone know if I need photocopies of my passport along with the app form and passport photos?

I've never had to produce photocopies of my passport together with the real thing when applying for a tourist visa but then never done it in Malaysia so it must be a local thing.

It's probably a good idea to carry a copy in Malaysia anyway as the police can ask to see I/D anytime and they are prone to carrying out sweeps of areas of the city picking up illegals.
