Work Permit Query

Recommended Posts

About 3 years ago I quit a job in Chiang Mai, and I never handed in my work permit - I never over-stayed or anything like that - and I haven't worked in Thailand since - I've been living in Scotland.

Does anyone know if I'll have a problem getting a work permit? This did happen with a previous job - and all you had to do was report the work permit missing and pay 1000 baht.

Does anyone know if this is still the procedure?

Cheers

If you made a photocopy of the old work permit, and have its details, it is pretty easy to close it out - however long ago it was "abandoned". You first go to work permit office with details of the old work permit. They then generate a form. You then take this to the police station, and pay a fine to the police (and it is normally 1,000 baht, although thre law allows a fine up to 2,000 baht). Once fine is paid, Police give you a receipt, which you take back to work permit office. Your old work permit is then closed history.

Most folks are a little uncomfortable pursuing this process on theor own. If you want some hand-holding, my staff can walk you through this - they've done it several times before - you just smile, and pay the fine, the transportation, and a modest fee.

Good luck!

Cheers.
